Spring Reading Thing reviews — Mr. Linky

Emily left a comment on my post from Friday, suggesting that I set up a Mr. Linky as a convenient place for everyone to post links to their Spring Reading Thing Book Reviews. I thought that was a great idea — seeing as how the reviews keep pouring in faster than I can keep up with them!

So here you go! I’ll put a Mr. Linky below and anytime you complete a review for one of your Spring Reading Thing books, feel free to come here and put up a link to it. Be sure to link to the exact post where your review is, not just your general blog homepage, or else people won’t be able to find your reviews easily.

I also want to thank everyone who has sent me links to their reviews. I haven’t been able to get another list together with links because I have received literally hundreds of links to reviews. Can you believe it? Hundreds!! You guys are amazing. I, however, am not nearly amazing enough to get them all into a nice formatted post. Please know that I do stop by and read the reviews every chance I get. You all are doing great!

I encourage anyone looking for Spring Reading Thing reviews to click through the participant blogroll in my sidebar every now and then — you’re bound to come across reviews. Also, check out comments to this post and this post — many people have put their links or mentioned their reviews there.

SO… we’re about halfway through spring. How’s everyone doing? Are you getting through your books? Have you changed your list? Added to it? Taken books off? I’d love if you’d leave me a comment to let me know how it’s going.

As I suspected, I’ve torn through the fiction on my list — I’m on my last one. But I’ve only completed one of my non-fictions and I’m starting to despair of finishing them all. This spring has turned out to be a lot crazier than I had planned. I’m not giving up yet though – there’s still time!

Spring Reading Thing Book Reviews

Wow — you guys are awesome! Many of you have either emailed me or left a comment to let me know about book reviews you’ve done so far for your Spring Reading Thing books. Everyone who has done at least one review is eligible to win one of the two books I’ll be giving away as part of this “review challenge.” Those books are So Many Books, So Little Time by Sara Nelson and How Reading Changed My Life by Anna Quindlen.

I’ll be doing the first giveaway (So Many Books, So Little Time) on May 4th and everyone who has sent me a link to one of their reviews up to that point will be eligible to win. The second book will be given away at the end of the spring reading challenge.

Spring Reading Thing — Let’s Get Reading!

Welcome, everyone! Are you ready to read? Do you have your list? Great, let’s go!

I can’t wait to see what everyone will be reading this spring. Whether you’re reading for fun, for inspiration, for learning, or just to force yourself to finish up those half-read books, I hope you enjoy every page!

Here’s a brief recap of how to be a part of the Spring Reading Thing:

Make a list of books you want to read (or finish reading) this spring. Your list can be as long or as short as you’d like.

Write a blog post containing your list and submit it to this post using the Mr. Linky below.

Get reading! The challenge goes from today, March 21st, through June 21st.

Check out other participants’ lists and add to your own to-read-someday pile!

If you’re so inclined, write reviews of the books you read along the way.

Write a post about your challenge experience in June, telling us all about whether you reached your goals and how the Spring Reading Thing went for you.

There’s a Mr. Linky at the end of this post. Please use it to link to your blog post containing your Spring Reading Thing list. Remember to link to your specific post, not just your general blog homepage. People will be stopping by for days (or weeks!) and when you link to your specific post, it will make it easier for everyone to find your reading list. Also, if you don’t mind, please link back here from your post so that your readers can come check out all the other participants.

Spring Reading List

Sometimes I read to learn. Sometimes I read to get motivated. Sometimes I read to be challenged. Sometimes I read to get through those books that I feel I “should” read.

But as I looked over my shelves last week, trying to decide what I wanted to put on my Spring Reading Thing list, I found myself drawn to a variety of books, but I also found myself drawn to books that will comfort, inspire, and entertain. And isn’t that one of the greatest things about reading? There are books and genres for every mood, “deep” books and “fun” books to fit the different stages we find ourselves in, books written to suit every feeling imaginable.

So my spring reading may not be particularly difficult, but I’ll be getting through some books that have been on the shelf for a while, books that I’ve been meaning to get around to, and most of all, books that I know I’ll enjoy.

I’ve tried to make my list mostly “even” — five fiction and six non-fiction. I can tell you right now, though, that I know I’ll blow through the fiction and start scrounging around for more. That’s okay. As long as I read the five I’ve committed to AND get through the six nonfiction.

Nonfiction

~~Reading with Babies, Toddlers, and Twos~~ by Susan Straub and KJ Dell’Antonia — C.’s far past this stage, but L. is just starting to really enjoy our times reading together, so I’m hoping this book gives me some great ideas and suggestions.

~~Friends for the Journey~~ by Luci Shaw and Madeleine L’Engle — This book looks very interesting. It’s a book about friendship written by two amazing ladies that reads a bit like a joint journal, touching on everything from poetry to marriage to recipes. I love L’Engle and am looking forward to the glimpse this will give me into her personal friendship with Shaw.

My Heart’s in the Lowlands by Liz Curtis Higgs — A kind of travelogue of Higgs’ recent trip to Scotland. To be honest, I never read travel books, so I’ll be curious to see how I enjoy this genre. It looks great.

~~Me, Myself, and Bob~~ by Phil Vischer — A behind-the-scenes look at Veggie Tales and its creator. Veggie Tales videos command a sizeable portion of our DVD shelf, so it’s only right that I learn a little about how it all came about.

~~Gift from the Sea~~ by Anne Morrow Lindbergh — A classic that I’ve never read. It’s about time.

~~Writer Mama~~ by Christina Katz– I’ve started it, but haven’t finished it. What I’ve read so far is a great mix of inspiration, practical advice, and information on the business of writing/publishing.

If, by some miracle, I finish all of these, I’m planning to move on to Sacred Parenting or The Mom Walk.

Fiction

~~Gilead~~ by Marilynne Robinson – I’ve read many good reviews about this book, and it’s been on my shelf for quite some time, but I haven’t so much as cracked open the cover. I’ll be cracking open that cover soon, though.

~~More Twisted~~ by Jeffery Deaver — A collection of short stories written by a master of suspense. Deaver is known for his twists and turns, and I’m always up for a rollicking suspense ride. I just started this book and am already enjoying it.

~~Saint~~ by Ted Dekker — Saint comes to me highly recommended. With one exception, I’ve enjoyed all of Dekker’s books that I’ve read, so I have a feeling I’ll like this one as well.

~~Key Lime Pie Murder~~ by Joanne Fluke – Pure light, fluffy, cozy mystery fun. With recipes!

~~Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West~~ by Gregory Maguire — I’m very curious about this book, described by one Amazon reviewer like this: “This most wonderful, magically inventive novel details everything you could have imagined life in Oz was like before the great tragedy of Dorothy’s arrival.” I have no idea what to expect from it, but that’s part of the fun.
