SRT ’11: One month in (more or less)

Okay, I know that we’re a bit more than one month in to Spring Reading Thing 2011, but I still thought this might be a nice time to see how you all are doing on your goals, and to share my progress as well.

I’ve read four of my ten books (you can see my original list here), which seems like good progress until you realize that three of them were fiction. Fiction is always far easier for me to move through than non-fiction, so I’ll have to step up my game a bit if I want to get through that list of nonfiction before summer gets here.

The one nonfiction book I’ve completed (Practicing Affirmation) was very good, though, and I’m still absorbing what I read and finding countless ways to apply it every day.

I’m about 70% done with Anne of Green Gables (and I can say that with confidence because my Kindle provides a percentage-complete status), and I’m loving this one as well. I pretty much never highlight passages in novels, but I’ve marked a few lines in this book because they really made me smile or nod my head in agreement. I appreciate Anne’s spunkiness and spirit and I understand why so many of my friends love this book.

SO…how is SRT ’11 going for you? Are you making progress? Are you enjoying what you’re reading? I’d love to hear how you’re doing!

  1. I’m plodding right along with my list, but still adding in new books as I go. ha. I’d love to read Practicing Affirmation soon!

  2. Liz says:

I had to go back and check my list because I couldn’t remember which books I had chosen for this challenge. I have read 3 of the 8 I chose, so I feel pretty accomplished so far. I’m currently in the middle of 2 more on my list, which should be completed by the end of the week, if all goes according to plan. :)

I’ve read 21 out of my goal of 30 & will finally break my streak of reading 28 every time.

I was compiling my “What’s On Your Nighstand” post for tomorrow, so that gave me a good opportunity to see how my SRT goals were going. I’ve read 7 out of a possible 15 — at the time I had a list of non-fiction and wasn’t sure which I’d choose from, but I might end up getting to all of them. Usually I have much more fiction than non-fiction. But I am feeling pretty good about where I am so far, though the non-fiction will slow me down a bit — it usually takes me longer to get through.

I’m making pretty good progress…so far I’ve read 9 out of the 20 books on my list, plus I’ve read 4 additional books. I think I might actually be able to complete my entire list – provided I don’t get too many requests to read books not on my list in the next 2 months!

  6. I’ve also read four of the books on my list. I have five more to go, so I’m making pretty good progress. I’ve also read 2 other books that weren’t on my list, and am halfway through a third. So far, the books I read were okay. Well, one was very good – Spinning by Michael Baron. The others were just okay. I’m hoping the remaining five on my list are better.

  7. yay on being through 4 of them! Good luck with your non-fiction. I kept my list short this year but I am doing pretty good with it! I plan on posting about it tomorrow :-)

  8. Mark says:

I’m now on my second book that wasn’t on the original list. I’ll be reading at least one more. No, it’s not because I’m making great progress with my list. I’ve just sudden had other priorities come up.

  9. sarah ronk says:

I’ve made good progress so far! Read 4 from my list and FOUR that weren’t! Haha!!

I just put a post together today of my status: http://sarah-proverbs226.blogspot.com/2011/04/spring-reading-thing-update.html

  10. Nancy says:

Let’s see… I’ve read 8 books from my original list of 20, finished 1 more not on the list, and am in the middle of 2 more – one from the list, one not. So I’m definitely making good progress!

  11. Kathy says:

I’m doing pretty well with my list….but I have to say, Katrina, that it makes my heart glad to see you reading (and loving) ANNE! Now you have to read the remaining 7 or so books in the series! :)

  12. Elsie says:

I’ve finished 3 from my original list and then read 3 that weren’t on my list! Ack! I’m also about halfway through the 4th & 5th from my list, but one is an Outlander book, so that means I still have about 400 pages to go in that one. I think I need to pick up the pace a little! haha!

  13. I felt the same way about Anne. I think that the next time Carrie has her challenge, I’ll try to read the second one. She’s a treasure.

I have to know what you thought of Kneebone Boy and if you passed it on to C. or not.

  14. Gigi Ann says:

I kept my list short, (5) for now, because I have some other challenges going on as well. I have 3 of the books read and hope to get another one read this week. I may add a book or two as time goes on, only time will tell.

  15. Janet says:

I wrote a quick update post today. I’ve read five books so far, three from my list and two others. I never seem to stick to the original list. :-) I’m really enjoying the Kindle.

  16. Not doing too bad here either. I have read 3 off of my list so far. Hoping to pick up the speed a little bit here so I can finish all of the titles I selected before summer!
My husband bought me a Nook right around the beginning of this challenge and I have to say, it is making reading all the more fun …and easier!!

  17. Landslide says:

So far so good… I’ve read 3 books out of 6 from my list. Yay! But now I’m reading one that wasn’t on the list and it’s a big one (Jane Eyre) so I may end up not reading all the books on my list.

I’ve never read Anne of Green Gables but I want to one day.

  18. Angie says:

I’ve never read Anne of Green Gables but now I want to…actually I think I may have a copy on one of my bookshelves.

I’m not doing too bad..I’ve read three books out of the ten plus two that weren’t on my original list.

  19. Maria says:

I’ve read 11 of the 20 I included in your challenge. I’ve read a few others in addition to those. I’m happy!

  20. I have deviated from my list. I updated it. Often I request books for review and they go above everything else. Why? I only request them if I really want to read them. I’ve read 31 out of 37 books so far. I know I’ll go over my goal so I’ll have to add to it. What I like about this challenge is that I am not stuck to that original list. Although chances are pretty good I’ll finish those during the challenge as well. Thanks Katrina. I’m enjoying this.

  21. Trish says:

Although technically I am halfway through, having crossed off 13 books out of 25 (2 were DNFs), I may be in trouble because I haven’t read any of the nonfiction on my list yet! But at least I am making progress.

  22. Samantha says:

I’ve posted an update on the challenge here: http://bookwormsandtea.blogspot.com/2011/04/spring-reading-thing-update-one-month.html

Basically, I’ve read 14 books since the challenge started and 6 of them were already listed. Pretty good for (a litte more than) one month!

  23. Katherine says:

Taking stock, I was happy to find that I’ve finished two of the books I meant to finish, read one more completely plus a couple short stories, but am stalled out in the middle of Connie Willis’ Doomsday Book. Oh! And started following Tor’s Song of Fire and Ice read-through. Not bad for me.

    Happy reading, everyone!

  24. graywolfie says:

I had 8 books in my original list…I managed to complete 1 book only…1/2 way thru 2 books. Did some changes to my list – in fact I added in 3 books…making a mess…but hey…the past few weeks have been a real mess for me with both girls sick & clingy…

Hope you are enjoying your reading…

  25. jill hoke says:

I am pretty happy with the progress I have made. Of the 10 books I have listed, I have read 6, discarded 2, and have 2 left to read.
