Dan and Ali Morrow graciously sent our family a copy of their new, co-written children’s book, That’s Where God Is, to read and review.
Here’s how the publisher describes the book:
A small child discovers God’s presence in the world around him.
A boy’s simple question sparks a search for God. Prompted by his grandfather, he discovers God’s presence everywhere: in a powerful storm, in a friend’s help, and in his sister’s kindness. Then his grandfather shares another truth: God also can be found in our hearts, if we invite him in.
Filled with wonder, That’s Where God Is teaches children ages 4 to 8 that God is always with them. Moving beyond simply telling about God, it gently guides children’s spiritual growth, showing them how to recognize God’s presence for themselves. With an introduction by Lee Strobel, it’s ideal for parents, grandparents, and teachers who want to deepen a young child’s walk with God.
And here are our thoughts:
I sat down to read That’s Where God Is with my kids one evening. L.(4) falls right in the perfect age range for this book, while C. (12) is a bit too old, but was curious enough to listen in and give his opinion. For the record, C. said that he thought it was a good book and would be perfect for older preschoolers and younger grade-schoolers.
That’s Where God Is follows a little boy’s journey as he searches for God in his day-to-day life. Each page describes a new revelation of God’s presence: we see evidence of Him in His creation; we learn He’s pleased when we are kind to others; we experience His awesome power in the midst of a thunderstorm; we’re reminded that He forgives us and loves when we pray to Him.
L. paid close attention to each page — he wanted to know where the little boy in the book found God! And I loved that each scenario included a Bible verse, so we could follow up and talk about how these truths are not just in a story book — they’re in God’s word.
The book closes with the boy’s grandpa telling him that there’s one more place we can find God — in our hearts, if we ask Him to come in and be with us always. The book doesn’t give what you might call a “gospel presentation” — there’s no discussion of Jesus’ sacrifice or our need to turn from our sin. But in a very age-appropriate way, That’s Where God Is! makes it clear that God isn’t just “out there.” He desires to be “in here,” in our hearts, in a personal relationship with us.
Here’s where I get a little teary-eyed. As I tucked L. in bed that night, a couple hours after we’d read the book, he told me that he wanted God to be in his heart forever, too. It was a precious opportunity for the two of us to talk and pray together. The faith of a child is a beautiful thing to behold!
I want to thank Dan and Ali Morrow for sending us a copy of That’s Where God Is. We enjoyed this charming picture book and I’m grateful for the spiritual discussions it has inspired.

Maybe I am child like, but this book sounds inspiring to me…Sometimes, as an adult, I seem to have
lost the innocence of seeing God in the more simple places in life. This book would be very
