I do not talk on the phone very much. I’m definitely more of an e-mail girl.
But I especially don’t talk on my cell phone very much. In fact, there are very few people who even know my cell phone number, and they’ve found that if they try to call it, it’s usually off. Or very far away from me.
And if you wanted to send me an urgent text? Don’t bother. I probably won’t get it for days. You’re better off sending an email…or even commenting on my blog.
Basically, I own a cell phone so schools can contact me if my kids have an emergency, and so I can call my husband while I’m grocery shopping to check on things we might need.
I was in the car earlier today, on my way to pick L. up from preschool, and I kept hearing a strange sound. I wondered if an alarm on my iPod was going off, but…no. I thought the radio was having some trouble, but when I turned it off, the sound continued.
Finally, I figured it out. My cell phone, sitting in a cupholder and charging, was ringing. My mother was calling to check on something with me. Luckily for her, I answered it before she was ushered to my voicemail.
Yes, I am that unfamiliar with the sound of my cell phone. And I realize it makes me an anomaly in this day and age.
Perhaps I should get a bit more familiar with the sound of it ringing…you know, in case there ever was an emergency with one of my kids.

hehe!! This totally cracked me up! I only have a cell phone.. no house phone.. so in case of an emergency I pray that my son didn’t hid it in the sofa….. again

That is so sad! Good thing you make up for it in other techie areas!
Only 3 people have my cell #, but Boyd put “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” on as my ringtone. Can’t miss it.
I’m actually right with you. I only carry my cell phone when I think *I* might need to use it. I never answer it when it rings. I don’t text.
But if you send me an e-mail, I’ll read and respond to it almost immediately.
I was/am the same way. I bought a prepaid cell once my oldest child started school, like you said, incase the school needed me. And stressed to the school it was for emergencies only. Then I switched companies & had text messaging. My husband & I started texting while we were seperated & fell in love all over again. So I have a prepaid cell w/unlimited texting. But I still only answer calls if I think you might be having an emercency

Haha! This is so funny! I’m not too big on talking on the phone either, although I do text. And I’ve had the same cell phone number since I got one like 10 years ago or something so everyone has it. I hardly ever answer though, I’d much rather let people leave me a message so I don’t have to talk to them. hehe
I left an award for you on my site: http://littlesproutgrowing.blogspot.com/2010/09/thank-you.html
LOL! One morning the phone was in my jean back pocket, on vibrate (running around all morning, and this was in the diaper bag is my purse days.) I was co-hosting a preschool party later that morning, and my co-hosting preschool mom was trying to call me, on my cell, which was vibrating in my back jean pocket, which I didn’t realize was my cell; but instead, thought the heat pump in our crawl space was going bad.
Our cell phone is our home phone ~ we ditched our landline since our phone has bluetooth and we can link it to a standard handset.
Now my text ring ~ I don’t know that at all and it was set to a doorbell sound and I went nuts trying to figure out what in the world was ringing all the time. I rarely text… haha.
Ha, that happens to me too. Usually mine is on vibrate and hardly anyone calls me on it so when it rings it scares the crud out of me.
I usually forget to turn mine on. Which causes my hubby great consternation…he loves to call me! But on the occasion that I have it on, his distinctive ring is “Scooby Doo”! You can’t miss it!
I don’t have a home phone, and I’ve definitely had the exact same thing happen…(clearly, I don’t like to talk on the phone!)
I don’t like to talk on the phone but still can’t live without my mobile! I’m always texting and feel lost whenever my phone isn’t working or I had forgotten it!

This is so unreal. I have a cell phone so that My son and daughter can check in once or twice a month and so I can let my husband know when I am leaving work. I heard my phone making a chirping noise on the way to work this morning. I had left it in my purse and the battery was low. I too am one of those aomalies. I hate phones. My daughter knows to check in with me and she may get 15 minutes out of me. My son checks in once a month as he is in the military.
This is classic!
The same thing happened to me when we decided to get call waiting again. We hadn’t had it for a while, and not with this house/phone service, so it took me a while to figure out what “that beeping” was when I was having a conversation!
HA!
I do recognize the sound of my phone, and I use it, but I do have to tell people it’s not on me at all times, so I don’t get urgent texts or calls. Also I don’t get great service here at home, so it’s really an “if I’m out” use.

I have a cell phone, but I got it for emergencies, so I never check it, really. It’s rarely turned on, even. And, it’s nice to have … but I just am not really a phone person, either. I keep telling friends & family that the fastest way to get a hold of me is to email me… but they still aren’t listening, and it’s been several years already. LOL.

It took me several years to make the switch. Maybe it will be the same for you. Now we don’t even have a land line – the only way to get hold of us is via cell. It’s like a security blanket (I’m thinking Linus from Charlie Brown)
Wait til you have teenagers. You will text. And you will love it. I do.

Teehee! I had the same thing happen recently, only in my case it was because I had temporarily changed my ring tone to one beep. Hold on to that cell phone anathema.-zation.
I am very new to the eBook scene. My parents & siblings got me a Kindle for my birthday last month. I’ve gotta say, I’m loving it! I listened on my Kindle to a gorgeous Librivox recording of The Age of Innocence. The whole portable free audiobook listening experience was divine. I also love the opportunity eBooks provide for new authors who can put their stuff–great or junk–out there.
My Kindle & my 300 eBooks will be exceedingly valuable on our holiday vacations, where packing space (2 adults + 1 freebie infant = 2 carry ons + 2 personal items) is so limited.
I will still frequent used book sales, especially at the library. And I prefer a reading printed books when I’m knitting, because constantly hitting the buttons to “turn the ePage” is distracting. But eBooks have a place in my home.
Oops! That last comment was for your reading question #2!!
Except for the first part about cell phones. That part made it where it was supposed to be.
Do you have an Iphone? If you get one you will never be far from your phone. Key
