Book Giveaway: The Weight of Shadows (with awesome gift bag!)

Not long ago, author Alison Strobel contacted me and asked if I’d be interested in reading her latest novel, The Weight of Shadows. She also offered to provide a copy of the book as a giveaway to one of my readers…along with an incredible “reader’s gift bag.”

Read on to find out more…

The Weight of Shadows
by Alison Strobel

From the publisher:

After a difficult childhood, Kim has built a successful life for herself … but she’d leave it all if it meant being rid of the guilt she harbors over a tragic mistake she made years ago.

When she meets Rick, she finds everything she needs—including a way to pay for her sins every time he hits her. Kim and Rick’s new neighbor, Joshua, knows more than Kim realizes about Rick, but Joshua has battles of his own to fight. Soon to intersect Kim’s and Rick’s lives is Debbie, who has saved countless women from abuse through the shelter she runs, but Debbie might be as desperate for love as the women she serves.

Meanwhile, as Rick’s wrath extends to their baby, Kim must decide if her penance is more important than protecting that innocent life—and if she should dare leave Rick when he has the power to bring her hidden crime to light.

My thoughts:

The Weight of Shadows was not always an easy read, because it deals with the heartbreaking issue of domestic abuse. Yet despite the difficult subject matter, the author weaves hope and grace into the storyline. The book was well-researched and I found myself caring for the main character and urging her to do the right thing. Though this novel is slower-paced than the books I usually reach for, I appreciated the courage of the author in tackling this subject, and I like the way she brought together the stories of three different people who were all dealing with pain from the past.

And now…take a look at the awesome gift package the author will be sending to one of you:

“JUST ADD (HOT) WATER” Book Lover’s Gift Bag

You might want to add a cozy couch as well, or some soft pajamas, because if you win this basket you won’t want to do anything but sit and read!

This donation, from “The Weight of Shadows: author Alison Strobel, includes a whole host of goodies:

- copies of her first three novels (signed to you or whomever you choose)
- a clip-on book light (so you don’t even have to get up to turn on the lights as night draws in)
- a bag of Pepperidge Farm Chessmen shortbread cookies (because who has time to cook when you’re in the middle of a good book?)
- a box of Celestial Seasons herbal tea (as if reading wasn’t relaxing enough!)
- an antique teacup, saucer, and sandwich plate (because you need somewhere to put those tea and cookies!)
- a lovely reusable tote (so you can easily relocate the whole shebang from, say, the couch downstairs to the bed upstairs)

Awesome, right?
