Dear blog…

Dear blog,

Hi.

Remember me? Katrina? The one who’s supposed to visit you every now and then, write some stuff, keep you updated?

Yeah, it’s me.

You probably think I’ve abandoned you.

I haven’t, really. At least, not on purpose. I’ve just been…I don’t know, distracted, I guess.

Distracted by never-ending snow that has landed me in a mid-winter funk, longing to hop in the car and drive south until I find sunshine, warmth, and yards where you can actually see the grass.

Distracted by being sick and having sick kids…the usual runaround in our house for this time of year.

Distracted by household stuff — I painted the hallway, I got a sewing machine, and I learned to sew (yes — I actually picked a new activity and worked on it!).

Distracted by a weekend trip.

Distracted by a couple good books that sucked me in and one book that completely irritated me.

Distracted by the local weather-people, who tell me nearly every day that we’ll be getting another 1-3 inches, or 2-4 inches or 4-8 inches. Oh wait, I mentioned the snow already. Sorry about that.

What’s that you say? You think I should have blogged about all those things as I did them? Yeah, you’re probably right. I don’t have a very good reason for why I didn’t, except for that first thing I mentioned — the mid-winter funk caused by day after day after day after day of more snow and more clouds and more gray skies. You see, I was half-afraid that any and every blog post I attempted would turn into some kind of whine-fest, and who wants to read that?

So instead, I just kept my distance for a while, kept my funk to myself.

Why am I back, you ask? Well, I missed you. There are some stories I want to tell, some experiences I want to share…

Oh, and the Spring Reading Thing is coming. You don’t think I forgot about that, did you? Of course I didn’t. I plan to post more details about it next week, and if I get my act together, I’ll even have a button ready for people to put on their blogs.

So, my dear blog, don’t count on daily posts from me or anything crazy like that. But rest assured that I didn’t forget about you and I plan to visit you more often. I’ll even try not to complain about winter. At least, not too much…

Your friend,
Katrina

Dear Katrina,

I know how you feel-this overly gloomy winter and my current lack of employment have landed me in a HUGE winter funk. I’m praying spring arrives on schedule and we all can go back to being happy, healthy people. :)

I was thinking about the Spring challenge just this past week! I plan on hop on it and use it to motivate me towards accomplishing some reads I haven’t made it to yet but said I would. Mostly, I guess I”ll use it as a reminder to me, and as a chance to repeat myself which I oh, so love! =D

And I’m really curious to know what book irritated you.

What a charming note!

I’m sure your blog is happy to wait, patiently, for you to find your energy and voice again…just as we are.

I’m sorry that you have been hit with this funk.

Our skies are the color of emptiness. Colorless. It’s hard to be motivated to do much when I wake up to another colorless sky.

May spring bring new hope, new inspiration, new ideas, and a great reading list for new books!

Oh mercy, I am right there beside ya in that funky trench! But it does sound like you’ve been doing some cool stuff whilst away from your blog–so that’s a plus!
I, too, want to know what book irritated you and which ones sucked you in real good.
Hugs of solidarity on the incredible desire to just.drive.far.south.

Yes, I totally understand. I have been posting, but not as much as the activities in my life would merit.

I too am very curious about the irritating book, since I already know which book you liked.

I’m SO curious about the irritating book. I’m glad I’m not the only one to have that reaction occasionally!

Come on down to Texas – we’ve got blue skies and a high of 65 today!

I understand funks, especially the weather controlled. One winter I got pushed into skiing because of a business event at the slopes that included taking the family. (Pushed because I had sworn off anything athletic since jr high school because it didn’t pay well & I stunk). Chad, watched me struggle for awhile, then said, “just follow me down and do what I do.” That experience generated weekends of early Saturday’s off to the ski slopes for the next several years.
The winter funks still lurk around any weather front moving in, but at least there’s a way to break it up when somebody says, “let’s go skiing or biking or walking or anything that gets the blood moving to push the funk out.
Just thought I’d share my funky little success story.
Your non-athletic father-in-law

I know how you feel. I don’t miss all of the snow. I live in Florida. It’s funny I met 4 nice young men from New York yesterday in an open air restaurant. The restaurant had their side flaps down and their heaters running and these young men said, “We came here to get out of the cold. What happened?” We have had temps in the low 30’s and 40’s with wind chills in the low 20’s. Some snow north of us and iced and frost where I live. Yes it is better than what you have but it puts us in a funk as well. I have noticed less activity on my blog and many others for the same reason. You are not alone. Looking forward to the Spring challenge.

Ditto. Except for the snow part. I too am intrigued by the irritating book AND the ones that sucked you in.
