So THIS is how I can find time to blog

You know, it’s kind of funny. I often have to battle against my own laziness, forcing myself to put down the book or the computer to do something around the house that really needs to be done.

But this week, I’m dealing with some mandatory laziness and, quite honestly, it’s driving me crazy. All I want to do is get up and get stuff done. I have a to-do list a mile long calling my name. There are errands to run, [many, many] household tasks to be tackled, places to go, things to do.

Yet I’m just sitting on the sofa, my laptop keeping one leg warm while a heat pack lies draped across my other knee.

I have no idea what I did. All I know is that something is very wrong with my knee. Oh, it’s fine if I’m just sitting here. But when I start walking around, a dull ache begins to take root and grow. Oh, and stairs? Please don’t ask me to walk up and down the stairs. Especially down. Because as soon as my right foot takes a step down, a sharp, shooting, pretty-much-debilitating pain stabs through my left knee from the outside. And I immediately grab the banister to avoid falling down the rest of the steps.

Yeah. Not good.

And so, rather than doing all things I had planned to do this week — things like packing up toys and clothes for the local mission, putting up Christmas decorations, and getting my Christmas shopping done — I’m just sitting here. Resting. Babying my knee.

Chad has threatened to take me to the doctor if things don’t improve today, so I’m really hoping they improve. It’s not that I don’t like doctors. It’s more that I don’t like all the things that going to the doctor’s entails. Like the crowded waiting room and the x-rays or other assorted tests, for example.

So I sit, resting. Mostly. I say mostly because I still have L. to take care of. And as you may know, 3-year-olds are not always conducive to sitting on the sofa all day. They require close supervision, clean-up, and potty assistance, to name just a few non-sofa tasks.

But as much as possible, I’m sitting. I have a stack of books next to me. I have my tissues (because this knee issue came on top of a yucky head cold). I have my iPod. I have my laptop. And I have the TV remote, though the TV is currently tuned to Playhouse Disney in order to keep L. busy and distracted.

I’m all set for another day of leisure, I suppose. Now if only my knee would cooperate and heal quickly…

So sorry to hear that you are having knee trouble. Perhaps you overexerted yourself with Thanksgiving dinner preparations? or maybe too much dancing on the town with Chad? I say you use the time to make a list of fun things that could have caused the problem…maybe it will make things seem easier to deal with.

Feel better soon! Isn’t it strange how we always want to do nothing, but when we are made to do nothing we find the energy and desire to do everything we need to?? Good time to finish up some reading I’d say! :) Rest… get better… everything else can wait a day or two.

Savor this time. There is much to be said for getting “stuff” done, but at the same time, we need to take care of ourselves. Don’t push. Feel better, and if your husband wants to take you to the doc, go. If it were one of your children feeling the way, would you hesitate to find out what was wrong?

Oooo! See! That’s a blog post right there! ‘What you might {or might now} have done to cause the knee problem.’

I’m sure you could come up with a comical list a mile long. :)

Sorry to hear your knee is crummy though. That does stink and I hope it feels better soon!

How frustrating that your ability and your drive don’t match up! Like you, I hate to pass on anytime that I’m actually feeling the need to work. However, the break after the Tgiving busy-ness was probably good.
