Fall Into Reading 2009: Less than a month to go!

I fully intended to put up a post last Friday, when we actually had one month to go in Fall Into Reading 2009, but life seems to be conspiring against me. Due to a host of responsibilities, errands, minor crises, and trying to figure out what, exactly, we’re doing for Thanksgiving, I’ve had approximately zero brainpower with which to compose a blog post.

However, this evening I seem to have found a few moments of reprieve and decided that I would get this post up before heading to bed. So here we go!

Fall Into Reading 2009Fall Into Reading 2009 will end on December 20th. And although that date, in theory, seems far away, it will be upon us before you know it — what with the holidays and the busyness and all. So I thought it wouldn’t be a bad idea to evaluate where we are in the challenge and maybe even revise game-plans where appropriate.

So where do you stand?

  • How far have you gotten in your Fall Into Reading 2009 challenge list?
  • Does the remainder of your list seem doable for the next couple of weeks?
  • Are you enjoying the books you’re reading?

As for me, I am flat-out astonished. I’ve actually read all but one of my Fall Into Reading 2009 books! I’m about 25% through my final book, though it’s one of those books I’m reading slowly, doing plenty of pondering and re-reading as I go. However, I also must admit that I’ve agreed to read two additional books as part of blog tours in the coming weeks. So there is a chance that — even with all my progress — I won’t quite finish. But I’m going to do my best. I think I can do it.

And if I do, it might be the first time I’ve finished every last book on my challenge list. Very exciting.

Even better, I think I’ve really enjoyed each book. One or two of them even kept me up reading late, late at night, because I just couldn’t stop. But more on that at the end of the challenge.

I know you’re probably knee-deep in turkey prep and pumpkin pie and vacuuming (or traveling), but if you have a moment, let me know how Fall Into Reading is going for you, at the 2/3rds+-way-through point.

I got a lot read in the first month, and it looked like I would get through most of it. The I got slowed down in November. I think I’ll make it half way through my list, but not much beond that.

Of course, I always add about twice as many books as I can really read, so that’s not surprising. There are just so many books I want to read right now, I want to list them all so I can choose later.

My original goal was 15 books, and I listed 6 non-fiction and 9 fiction. I’m not doing well with the non-fiction - I returned one to the library after reaching the renewal limit, though I do want to go back to it. I did read another that wasn’t on the original list. I’m doing much better with fiction - I’ve finished 8 books, 2 not on the list. So that puts me at 9 read so far. Reading another 6 in the next month, especially since I’m leaving for Disney tomorrow and won’t be back until Tuesday night, is most likely not going to happen but I’m giving it my best shot.

Eek, of course I have to post behind Deborah–Miss 500 Books in One Year! Whoa!

I think my goal was to read four specific books. Maybe five? Anyway, I’ve surpassed that. Here’s my link to the books I read during month two, http://ellieisanewthing.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2009-11-23T04%3A01%3A00-06%3A00&max-results=1

And since that post, I’ve read two more (it’s Thanksgiving break).

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am getting a lot of reading done ~ just not the stuff on my list. I ended up getting a bunch of other books…and well, got a little sidetracked.

But I am reading!! :)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I actually found out that I was pregnant with our first child on October 11th : ) Because of this, a lot of my reading has definitely changed! Some of the books on my list don’t seem quite as important as they used to and are being traded for more pregnancy and parenting books. That’s a change I can live with though!

Congrats! I’m due in February, and Little Miss Thing doesn’t like me sitting still long enough to read anything. I am picturing Trina Schart Hyman’s illustration of Ronia, the Robber’s Daughter.

I am gobsmacked that one of your commenters has read over 500 books this year. That is more than one a day! I will be lucky to finish the challenge as I put far to many books on it. I may reach three quarters by the end of December,so that won’t be too bad.

I have 6 books on my list. I’ve been reading a lot of other books — stuff I didn’t put on my list, but rather books that have just come my way in the meantime. Soooo, I’ve only read two of the books for the challenge. I started a third, gave it a good 100 pages, and just couldn’t get into it, so I put it aside. Not sure if I’ll get to other three. I’m not sweating it. Part of the reason I joined the challenge is to learn about what everyone else is reading!

Wow..looks like most of the commenters are doing well for this challenge. I just finished my 4th book…really slow…but I’m not hurrying cos I just want to read & relax…

Well seeing as how our Thanksgiving is in October, I don’t have a turkey to blame if I’m behind. LOL.

But I think I am doing good! I bit off quite a lot of review books, I realized after I’d already agreed to them, but have really enjoyed most of them so it hasn’t been a chore to read them. However, I did have to drop a few books from my original goal as they were due back at the library and I just couldn’t get them read. I’m reading one right now, Julie and Julia, that I am not enjoying that much and am at that stage halfway through where I’m pondering whether to drop it or not. And believe it or not, Katrina, I’m totally enjoying the non-fiction choice, and am not struggling through that one at all. Who knew?!

I actually keep adding more books to my list - mainly library books that have started to come in. But, I started with 4 originally, and I’ve actually read 5 so far! Even if they weren’t all a part of my original list, I’m still pretty excited to have done so well.

I had a short list, and I’ve read everything but the Eragon series. It helps to just completely ignore all of your actual work, not to mention the things you are supposed to be reading:) I just grabbed a stack of YA off the shelves for all that “extra time” I’m going to have this weekend - I know, I’m funny, aren’t I? With six kids out of school? May as well add Eragon to the pile.

Working on my fourth book, which I can definitely finish before the end of the Challenge. Knitting projects have pulled time from reading but I’m starting to find a better balance.

I have changed almost completely from my original 25 or so.
However, I’m excited that I have become a book reviewer.
Albiet good or not, I am excited to be a reviewer.

I actually finished my last book on Sunday! I’m so excited to be done so far in advance, although maybe I should have planned to read more books! Here’s my final update: http://bookretreat.blogspot.com/2009/11/fall-into-reading-final-update.html

Well, two of the books had to get returned and I couldn’t even renew them because they bot had nine holds on them (yes, 9!) I finished 2 others and then got sidetracked…one of the books I finished is the first book in the Left Behind series…I coldn’t wait…so I’m on book 5 in the series.

Not too much progress over the last couple of weeks, but thanks for the reminder! I do want to whittle down my list of books to read still.

I’m a little behind on my reading goals. But I’m hoping to make up some time soon. I’ve been spending time trying to drive business lately so there hasn’t been a lot of time for some “me” time.

After a reading binge in October (read 8+ books), I slowed way down in November, finally finishing “Three Cups of Tea” at the end of the month. I don’t think I’ll make it through the rest of my list (8 to go, plus a book club book that I haven’t added yet). I had hoped to read more over Thanksgiving but cooked, shopped and decorated instead.

If I finish 3 more on my list, I’ll be happy! Besides, I have a pile of books not on the list that I’m ready to read. Perhaps January will be another reading binge. :)
