Summertime Goals

As of today, my older son has exactly three weeks of school left. And while both of us are looking forward to an extended break from the projects and the homework and the deadlines and the early mornings, I know we’ll feel just a tiny bit lost once summer actually arrives.

The structure of the school year has its advantages, one of them being to provide some focus and direction to every week. If we’re not careful, summer can turn into one vast, lazy, zoned-out blob of time, and when we come out of our daze next September, we’ll wonder where the time went and why we have nothing to show for it.

I know what you mean. Sometimes I think it’s healthy to have some lazy time. I remember when my kids were pretty young, people would ask what I had planned for the kids for the summer and I would be dumbfounded.. I never thought about planning. haha Sometimes I think we overbook our kiddos.

Sigh – we still have 6 weeks left. Of course, we start a few weeks after you do. But still. I need summer!!!

  3. You just inspired me to set some summertime goals for myself! Of course, I cannot guarantee bike riding is one of them. ; ) I like your happy dropper off-er, picker up-er plan for that!

    Those are great goals!

One of ours is to get through a good portion of Rosetta Stone Spanish Latin America. Other than that – regular trips to the library, lots of time outside, keeping up on reading.

It is good to have goals like those…I will probably set some of my own goals myself. I don’t know if my brother will!! He just likes to swim and do stuff like that… or else he’ll just sit around and watch TV with the windows open. :-)

Katrina, I can’t seem to post comments at Scholastic…so I”m posting here.

For Working Moms, Day Care is sort of like Potty Training Camp…peer pressure starts early, and you don’t want to be the only one in your class NOT using the potty….or God Forbid…not move up to the next class with your friends because you don’t use the potty.

My Summertime goals include not getting laid off from my job…because one unemployed person in a household is enough.

Matt’s (10) summertime goals include getting in soccer “touches” everyday…competitive soccer starts in the Fall. My goals for Matt include spending less than one hour each day on the computer, and the rest of the hours of the day outside…he loves to make and edit videos with his friends and put them on YouTube…mostly burping videos because that’s what 10 year old boys do…so maybe another goal is for him to expand his video subject matter.

Nick’s summertime goals include getting better at swimming because….we live in San Antonio and it’s nice enough to swim about 9 months out of the year. My goals for Nick include getting him in the house before 10:00 pm each night.
