We’ve been officially doing our “spring reading” for one month now, and I’m curious — how is it going for you?
Are you enjoying the books you picked? Have you completely revamped your list because the original wasn’t working? Are you super-organized, and therefore are 1/3 through your list, since we are 1/3 through spring? Is finding time for reading proving to be more difficult than you thought it would be?
As for me, I’ve been pleased with my reading progress so far. I’ve completed 4 books from my original list, plus an additional book (not on my list) for a blog tour. Five books in a month is pretty good for me these days. In addition, I’m about half-way through each of the three books I’m currently reading.
Bizarrely, I’ve been getting through nonfiction faster than fiction. Four of the five books I’ve read so far this spring have been nonfiction. Very weird. Maybe I’m working extra-hard at reading nonfiction, since that’s usually my weak spot. Or maybe I’m in some kind of fiction slump. I don’t know. But it’s been pretty fun to cross off the nonfiction books as I read them.
Hey – I may actually catch up on all the unread nonfiction books on my shelf someday! Okay, that’s probably pushing it… but I can dream, right?
Leave a comment and let me know how you’re doing so far with Spring Reading Thing 2009.

Of the eight on my list, I’ve finished four — the best I’ve ever done on the Spring Reading Thing. Of the four, my favorite would have to be Jodi Picoult’s Vanishing Acts followed by The Sealed Letter.
Glad you’re doing so well with the nonfiction reads, Katrina. Nonfiction has always been a weakness of mine, so I’ll have to check out some of the ones you’ve finished.
I’ve read 4/12, and am working on #5 right now. I gave up one book on my list, so I’ll have to replace it with something else. I’ve actually read 13 books total since the challenge started, but for me this challenge is more about reading the specific books on my list than about pure numbers.
I’ve finished 3 books so far and am working on 4. I have strayed from my list, partly becuase one of my other goals I set was to not purchase any books- only to get them at the library or borrow from friends. I have been reading what has come across my way until I find some more on my list.
Enjoying it all the way though!
I’ve actually been doing a lot of reading … now I need to switch gears and tackle some of my non-fiction. But, in all, I’m pleased with what I’ve tackled so far!
I’m chugging along. I’ve read 24 books and reviewed all of them. I don’t put my reviews on your reviews sheet until I publish that review on my blog, so there’s a bit of a backlog. (That’s the biggest cause of forehead wrinkles for me.) I love what I’ve read. One of the best is an old one that I bought from a sale table over a year ago. I just published the review today: Gardenias for Breakfast by Robin Jones Gunn.
I had originally picked 14 books to read. I have been reading slow, and have not had a lot of time to read, so I have had to shorten my list to 8. I have finished 3 so far, and I am almost done with #4. I have also replaced books from my original list with newer books that I have gotten in the mail since I made my original list. I have enjoyed the books that i have read and the one that I am currently reading.
I am over halfway with my list. I had a short one on 10 books. I have four left to read and one of them is in progress. I picked all books I was really anxious to read right away so I haven’t ventured too far away from this as scheduled reading. But I have no doubt I’ll finish them before the end of the challenge.
I’m not doing very well – I have only completed 1 of the 10 books I have on my list. I am in some kind of reading slump – but am hopeful that it is going to end soon. I have started 3 books off the list and hope to get them done soon.
I’ve read 19 out of 32 books. i got a bunch read during the 24 hour readathon this past weekend. although i have to take a break for a while b/c it’s end of school time and must finish up papers before reading!
I’ve finished 4 on my list of 15, though 3 of those were audio. We were thrown a curve ball a few weeks ago and have been getting our house ready to sell, so that has sapped my energy. Plus I hated the book for my book club and didn’t want to read it, so that wasted quite a bit of time. I’ve now happily returned it, not even halfway read, and have picked up another on the list. The house projects are winding down so I should be able to get back to my usual reading rate.
okay.. hit a reading slump and didn’t read a single page last week.. the whole week! However I made up for it some last night when I read a ton! I am kinda behind but at the same time I think some of my other books are quicker reads then the one I am reading now
I am really going to try and finish all of the books on my list this time!
My list keeps getting longer.
I’m enjoying the authors I’m reading (mostly fiction) & I keep adding more of their books to my list. That’s okay though. I’m enjoying it.
I finished one of my books – The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands. I am almost finished with my second book – The Passion of Mary Margaret. I am happy. This is good for me. I missed reading and this is exactly what I needed. A challenge.
I’m plodding along, which for me is a good thing. I’m on book # 3.5, I say 3.5 because I was half way through a book when the challenge began. I’m also not counting the Boxcar Children book read between .5 and #1 and the ADHD book I’ve been skimming. Overall, I’m pleased with how far I’ve gotten. I’ve enjoyed the books, and am looking forward to reading the rest.
Going better than I thought…but SO hard not to deviate from my list and pick up tons of extras from the library instead of reading what I pre-decided. It’s a good lesson in self-discipline.
I’ve finished 3 1/2 of my 8 so far. The half being one of the non-fiction ones. I think it’s going good but I think that’s because the weather at the beginning of spring was sort of yucky so I had more time to read. Don’t know how it will keep going now that the weather is nicer. Maybe I can keep the yard work to a minimum. ;v)
I’ve finished five of the eleven on my original list, plus I’ve read four (almost five) that aren’t on it. Two of the best that I’ve read so far are Deceived by James Scott Bell and She’s in a Better Place by Angela Hunt.
Yeah, I wouldn’t be holding my breath that you’ll get through all the non-fiction on your shelves (or me through mine either), but it is very nice to get through some books.
I’m doing well, too. I’ve read two nonfiction titles on my list, and a few fiction books, and at least one that wasn’t on my list (and I’m about to start another couple that aren’t on there). BUT I think I might sort of finish. Looking back over my list, there are some that I probably won’t get to because I’ve already changed my mind, but that’s okay.
Well, so far I have crossed off 5 of my 16 books. One was a bad apple, so I didn’t finish it, the other 4 were great. Now I’m reading the 6th book and a book that is not on my list. For the rest of the week I have 2 other books on my mind that are both for the Spring Reading Thing.
I just love this challenge!
I’ve added one book to my overly optimistic list, which brings me to 28 books. And I’ve read 8 of them, which includes the only 3 kids books on my list.
I think I’m in trouble.
Not doing as well as i’d like, but i’m reading and that’s hood.
oops. i meant to say that’s good. I am really enjoying the reading that i’m doing.
I’ve gotten 4 of my books done, which is pretty good for me. I am struggling to read the non-fiction as that is normally my favorite genre, but I aim to do one of them next! I am loving having a goal in my reading…the problem is the library keeps wanting their books back before I am done! HA!
I’ve made it through the 3 shortest of the 5 books on my list. I just started in on the longest and I’m loving it already!
I haven’t read a single book on my list yet. I told myself if I don’t read all the books on my list, I would have to give the difference away. I better start!
I have finished 6.5 books on my list of 14, plus I read two others for the readathon which weren’t on my list. I feel really good about my progress so far, although I have several long ones on my list to go still.
I find that I go through non-fiction phases every once in awhile–change keeps things interesting!
*smiles*

Ok, I’ve read completely 7 books (2 were audio). I haven’t finished Sean McDowell’s book cause the EFree Youth groups are going to Districts Fri-Sun and he’ll be there so I gave it to our Youth Pastor. Don’t know when I’ll get it back. I’ve read 1/2 of Kathy Ireland’s book, but had a giveaway so I probably won’t be able to finish it, tho I liked it. Gave back my Ravi Zacharias to our church book club leader for book club on Monday night and was only able to read 1/2 of that because I only had it for 2 days.
I was given 4 books to read for judging by May 15 that I hadn’t counted on, so those 4 have to be added, tho I don’t know if I’ll add those titles cause the authors aren’t supposed to know who’s judging them. Bethany House also sent me 2 books for review that weren’t on my list before. I also had Rebecca from Christian Review of Books email me telling me she’s sending me like 3-4 books! Eek. Who needs to sleep, right?
Katrina, you GO girl with those non-fictions! I can’t do them well at all. It’s such a struggle for me! You are being a great example!
What should I do about the books I might not get a chance to read? Leave them unmarked on my list? Grrr I just want to move on.
Blessings on your readings,
Mimi
Ok, I admit, I haven’t been diligent enough in my reading! I’ve only been picking at them here and there. I will try harder in this coming month. I could easily read a book in just a few nights, instead I’m just poking around, lol.
I’ve read 6 of the 18 on my list. That would mean I’m 1/3rd done, except one of the books on the list is Les Miserable which is 1/3rd of the list all by itself
I’ve also read 6 that weren’t on my list. I need to buckle down and focus on the list because I do want to read these books and I keep getting distracted by the bright shiny books that cross my path.
I’ve done 3 1/2 of my 7 so far. They are all fiction this time. One I just finished, The Help, I loved! A couple of the ones I have left are long but I think I should be able to finish if I don’t get tempted by other books not on my list!
So far I’ve finished seven and have six more to read. I originally started with six but my last has grown over the last month… I’m going to resist adding more.
Original plan – 10 books
Three that I planned on – done
One that I didn’t – done
Number of books that have arrived “unexpectedly” from paperbackswap.com – FOUR! LOL
Got plenty left to read and where to start? LOL
So far, I’ve finished three books, “Under the Banner of Heaven,” “No Compromise: the Story of Keith Green,” and “Confessions of a Shopaholic.” Currently, I’m reading “THe Hiding Place,” and “Believing God,” and have about five more to go. Except for “Confessions of a Shopaholic,” this challenge is personally deeper this time around, but I’m enjoying it!
Not doing as well as I would like…I’ve only read two and half books on my list so far. Just having trouble finding time to read as much as I would like.
I am doing pretty good. I should have kept my original list though because I have added the books I’ve read that weren’t on the list and since I mainly read library books, I found that two of the books I found on my list I’d already read, so I deleted them (oops!).
I know it’s goofy, but I wanted to correct a mistake that I made on a name in my post above. Roseanna is the Christian Review of Books leader. I have no idea why I always want to call her Rebecca! Sorry Roseanna if you saw/see my post.

PS Katrina, I’m moving on. Thank you for giving me that freedom!!
I have finished 7 1/2 books from my list of 11. My hope is to finish all 11 and start on my “secondary” Spring Reading Thing list. I had been in a reading slump and this has really jump started my reading mojo. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
I’ve read 12 of the 25 books I have listed and am currently reading three and almost done with one of those three. I love reading.
