Giveaway: LeapFrog Tag Reader Bundle

The other day, I was looking at LeapFrog’s Tag Reading System at the store and I thought it would make a great gift for my book-obsessed 2.5-year-old either next Christmas or for his 4th birthday. If you’re not familiar with Tag, it’s basically a cool “pen” that pre-readers and early readers can use to help them read and experience special storybooks and activity books that are part of the Tag system. Check out this review of the Tag system or the demo at the LeapFrog site — they do a much better job explaining things!

Here’s the great news: As part of National Reading Month, LeapFrog is giving away several of their Tag Reader Bundles, and I have the privilege of giving one of those bundles away, here on Callapidder Days.

Tag ReaderThe Tag Reader Bundle includes:

  • A Tag Reader
  • The Ozzie & Mack book that comes standard with a reader
  • 2 additional Tag books: Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat and Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham

catinhatgreeneggs

Total prize value is almost $80!

To enter:

  • Visit the Tag Reader Review at About.com to learn more about the system.
  • Leave a comment on this post, telling me your favorite feature of the Tag system.
  • U.S. mailing addresses only, please.

You can also earn bonus entries by doing any or all of the following:

  • Mentioning and linking to this giveaway on your blog. (Leave a comment with the link to your mention.)
  • Subscribing to my RSS feed. (Just leave me an additional comment letting me know you have subscribed, or that you were already subscribed.)
  • Joining the 1 Million Reading Hours Pledge with your kid(s), over at LeapFrog. (Leave a comment here letting me know you did it. This one is on the honor system.)

That’s a potential 4 entries per person!

This giveaway will remain open until Monday, March 23rd. I’ll close comments and choose a winner that evening.

Thank you to LeapFrog for sponsoring this terrific giveaway!

And remember I said that Leapfrog is giving away “several” bundles? You’ll find giveaways popping up on the following blogs as well, sometime between now and next Wednesday:

Someone has to be first… I’m already a subscriber!

2 amber d. March 11, 2009 at 11:36 pm

We have been looking at the Tag system since before Christmas. I love the selection of great, new, and popular books that are available as well as some classics.

3 amber d. March 11, 2009 at 11:36 pm

I took the pledge!

4 Sheri March 11, 2009 at 11:49 pm

5 Sheri March 11, 2009 at 11:50 pm

Love this system. Have been looking at purchasing it.

6 Sheri March 11, 2009 at 11:51 pm

Just subscribed.

7 Amy B. March 12, 2009 at 1:03 am

I liked that the pen also interacts with pictures in the book and can be used to play simple reading comprehension games. My kids would love that.

8 Amy B. March 12, 2009 at 1:04 am

I pledged 20 minutes. I usually read more than that with my little ones but I know I do at least 20 minutes a day. Thanks for the chance.

9 Carrie March 12, 2009 at 1:23 am

Oh I’ve been eyeing this “system” for awhile!

I like it because you can touch the pen to a word and it says the word. My son is just making the connection that I’m reading the words so he points to them and asks what it says which is so cool! This would be an awesome tool to use. Thanks for hosting the giveaway. =)

10 Carrie March 12, 2009 at 1:24 am

And I do subscribe. ;)

11 Lindsay March 12, 2009 at 7:51 am

wow such a cool system! I think the neatest feature is touching the word and it reading it out loud to you. That is really great for the beginning learners and the ones who can read most of the book but get stuck on some words.

12 Lindsay March 12, 2009 at 7:51 am

I am a subscriber :-)

13 Gretchen March 12, 2009 at 9:10 am

My 3 year old is into searching for a particular word that he knows is on each page. This would be great for him!

14 Gretchen March 12, 2009 at 9:12 am

Ok, I pledged!

15 Christie March 12, 2009 at 10:03 am

I love that you can check the data for the Tag Reader and find out how long a child spent with a particular book, what questions they answered correctly, and what types of skills they are working on.

16 Charity March 12, 2009 at 11:31 am

I like the independent reading aspect - since my older 3 children can read, this would be perfect for my youngest (age 4).

17 Charity March 12, 2009 at 11:36 am

I just subscribed and did the pledge. I’ve been very interested in your reading challenge, so this was a good time to subscribe.

18 Jennifer, Snapshot March 12, 2009 at 11:54 am

I love this. My favorite part is the “reading games” that interact with the pictures. My kids have always liked that sort of thing.

19 Jennifer, Snapshot March 12, 2009 at 11:54 am

Of course I’m a subscriber!!

20 Jennifer, Snapshot March 12, 2009 at 11:59 am

I joined the pledge! I’ve decided that I’m going to use the morning to read to Amanda while she’s eating breakfast and making her lunch.

I actually started this morning (before reading this), and it was fun.

21 joelene March 12, 2009 at 12:51 pm

Wow what an opportunity. I have looked at that Tag reader and thought what an awesome way to keep a kid involved in the reading process prior to school. My little Levi loves to be read to but this would make it so much more inter-active. Instead of sitting and pretending to read he could really accomplish it. WOW~!

22 joelene March 12, 2009 at 12:54 pm

I subscribed too.

23 alemos March 12, 2009 at 2:24 pm

I love how they have a choice in reading. They can have help by having a word read, or they can have the whole story read. Because we know that each day they feel like doing something different.

24 Sarah (Strohl) Brown March 12, 2009 at 4:49 pm

As a former teacher ANYTHING that gets kids interested in reading is a big YES!!!!!
Both of my little ones love to be read to and even though neither of them are reading on their own yet they sit down and “read” their favorites all the time. I would love to have one of the TAG readers for them to allow them more of a chance to be reading independently.
Thanks for entering me in your drawing.

25 michelle March 12, 2009 at 4:54 pm

27 Carol March 12, 2009 at 5:55 pm

I like that the Leapfrog builds the confidence of young readers, and overall, the best feature is the “fun factor”, menaing, the interactive components make for a great enticement to read.

28 Carol March 12, 2009 at 5:55 pm

I pledged 20 minutes a day under the name cdziuba.

29 MJ March 12, 2009 at 6:39 pm

This is so cool! My 3 and 4 year old kids would love something like this…Love your blog!

33 3carnations March 13, 2009 at 11:23 am

My favorite part is that it’s interactive - My son could click on the different words and learn some new sight words that way, or check words he has sounded out.

34 3carnations March 13, 2009 at 11:23 am

I took the challenge - At least 30 minutes per day. :-)

35 3carnations March 13, 2009 at 11:24 am

38 Beth/Mom2TwoVikings March 13, 2009 at 1:54 pm

I tried to enter the LeapFrog pledge but my email is too long to fit into their allotted field!

39 Amy March 13, 2009 at 2:17 pm

This sounds like such a great tool for independent reading! I love that fact that kids can easily use the tool to discover new words. And I like the idea that you can reuse the tool by uploading new books.

-Amy

As a parent with speech delay triplets, this tag system is so interactive and it will definitely get the boys interested in reading! Especially for Lucas who couldnt sit still for a book, this interactive reading with participation from him will definitely get him busy!

I know this sounds silly, but I like that there is a headphone jack in the pen. My daughter really likes using headphones and doesn’t get to very often. I also like that it can be updated online. Thanks for the chance!

70 Lori Z. March 16, 2009 at 3:15 am

I’m really interested in the Tag Reader for my 4 year old son (and someday my 1 yr. old will like it too). He is just getting interested in word recognition and I think the pen approach would really help him have fun with it, especially on our 7 hr car ride next month.

I subscribe to your RSS.

Thanks for your blog.

79 Christine March 16, 2009 at 2:11 pm

My favorite feature…before actually getting hold of it…is the portability of the system. I can see my boys taking this to Grandma’s and using it in the car. My boys love to hear their favorite books over and over, so the limited storage space wouldn’t be that big a deal to us.

I have had my eye on this product for my 4 year old for a while now. While he loves for me to read to him, the independent nature and versatility of this product appear to be just what he needs to take the next step in reading on his own. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

87 Laura March 16, 2009 at 7:54 pm

My pledge is in!

88 Laura March 16, 2009 at 7:56 pm

I love that the pen also works with the pictures in the books and can be used to play reading comprehension games! Awesome! I’d so love to win this for my son! He’s a Math whiz…but he struggles in reading.

90 3boyzmom(tangie) March 16, 2009 at 10:39 pm

I pledged to read 20 minutes a day with my son!

91 Noreen March 17, 2009 at 1:12 am

I like that you can view the data and see what they are doing, what they got wrong (to work on) and how long they were reading

92 Noreen March 17, 2009 at 1:15 am

pledged 30 mins day

93 Sarah March 17, 2009 at 7:34 am

I love that it “reads” words and interacts with the pitures!

94 Sarah March 17, 2009 at 7:35 am

I also pleadged to read 30 minutes per day with my children!

95 Danetta March 17, 2009 at 1:42 pm

The feature that I like the best is the data tracking so you can see how your child is doing with a particular book.

96 Danetta March 17, 2009 at 1:43 pm

I joined the pledge and I pledged to read for 30 minutes a day to my son.

97 CanCan (Mom Most Traveled) March 17, 2009 at 2:25 pm

I love that it has a headphone jack! Yes!

98 Lisa Casey March 17, 2009 at 6:43 pm

I love that the “system” is just a pen and not a huge laptop. Much more compact!

99 Lisa Casey March 17, 2009 at 6:46 pm

I just subscribed to your RSS feed and I also took the 30 minutes a day challenge at Leapfrog :)

100 Christine March 18, 2009 at 1:41 pm

I love that they are adding things in addition to books like flashcards to make it even more useful. Thanks!

101 Christine March 18, 2009 at 1:41 pm

I pledged 30 minutes per day with my son! Thanks.

102 melissa March 18, 2009 at 3:45 pm

103 melissa March 18, 2009 at 3:46 pm

I pledged 30 minutes with my kids!

104 Lisa H March 18, 2009 at 8:36 pm

My favorite feature is that the pen can read any word the child has trouble with. This allows more independent reading.

105 Sharla March 19, 2009 at 3:11 pm

I love that with it “they can make a guess at a particular word and see if they are right. Or they can memorize the words, which is an early stage of learning to read.” Great tool!

106 Sharla March 19, 2009 at 3:13 pm

I pledged 20 minutes a day!

107 Kate March 20, 2009 at 8:52 pm

It’s good to know the ups and downs of the system. How can it be that bad though if it’s encouraging a little one to read! Thanks for the giveaway!

108 Kate March 20, 2009 at 8:53 pm

I pledged 20 min a day!

109 Leigh March 20, 2009 at 10:23 pm

We think the TAG reader is great. I love the fact that Leapfrog has chosen to digitize some of the classic favorite kid books, and also that the recognizable characters from film or television in the books sound familiar in the audio.

110 Kristie March 23, 2009 at 6:49 pm

I love that it encourages independant reading. My daughter is very independant and would love that! LOL!

111 Kristie March 23, 2009 at 6:49 pm

I pledged 20 minutes a day with my kiddos!
