1. It would appear that I’ve fallen off the face of the bloggy earth.
2. No matter how much I decide to simplify the holidays, things never actually work out that way. Simple, I mean. They’re always busier, crazier, and more hectic than I had originally planned.
3. It’s okay to ignore the blog — and, in fact, ignore the entire computer — in order to just enjoy Christmas and New Year’s and everything in between with the family.
4. If this is 2009, it means that I’ve been married to Chad for 15 years, as of today. Yes, fifteen years ago, our family and friends gave up their New Year’s Day sleeping-in, in order watch two crazy kids say their vows and start a life together. I already told Chad this in his card, but I’ll say it here too — it’s been a wonderful fifteen years. I’m so grateful for his faithfulness, his love, his friendship. And I’m ready to begin our next fifteen years together.
5. I am probably too old to take up a new outdoor sport (more on that at a later date).
6. I haven’t had time to think about resolutions, goals, or plans for 2009. Perhaps January 5th will be a good day to do somehting about that. I’m thinking that by then, life will feel a bit more calm.
7. I have made enough baked goods in the last two weeks to satisfy my urge to bake for a good long time. And we won’t even discuss how many baked goods have been consumed in this house during the last two weeks!
8. A two-and-a-half-year-old has completely mastered the skill of opening gifts. Plus, if he is given gifts to open on December 24th & December 25th, odds are, he’ll wake up December 26th and say, “More presents?”
9. Three people in this house got bikes for Christmas. The people at the local bike shop like us.
10. Two people in this house stayed up until midnight last night. The youngest in the house was asleep by 8:30, and the oldest most mature was asleep by 11:10. C. and I were the only ones to tough it out.
11. I’m incredibly blessed. 2008 was not the easiest year, but as I look around, I see clear evidence of God’s abundant grace. I’m thankful for my amazing husband and our two great kids; for our family and our friends; for all the ways God provides for us and most of all, for His presence in our lives. I hope that in 2009, I live in a way that pleases Him.
Happy New Year, everyone!

Totally identify with that 2 1/2 year old mastering the art of opening presents.
And unfortunately we probably also identify in the consumed-a-lot-of-baked-goods catagory also. =P
Happy New Year AND Happy Anniversary!
I’ve been ignoring my blog and the computer in general a lot too. I think January 5 is a good day to start to think about it again
Glad you are enjoying this wonderful holiday season. Happy Anniversary to you guys, and here’s to a fantastic year ahead!
Happy anniversary!!
Happy anniversary!
Very touching post. Most of all, I agree on No.3: so much so that I have not yet told you that your guest post (translation) was up on Christmas, as scheduled. Thanks, and have a very happy year 2009!
Francesca
Happy Anniversary! Hope y’all had a good day! Enjoying all things family is good during this time. I’m kinda ignoring mine because I have to, my hard drive went out on my laptop, argh!
I borrowed from Stacy the Joanne Fluke books and just started the second one, strawberry shortcake murder……they’re kinda fun!
I’m with you on the baked goods. I swear that’s all i ate for the past week. Thank heavens they’re gone but I’m contemplating making chocolate chip cookies for tonight. Hm ha. And yes, the blog is always here – something I’m learning. Oh and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
Happy Anniversary!
!! We made and ate way to many baked goods as well! I totally ignored the blog as well
Happy Anniversary, Katrina!!
Also, I don’t think living in a way that pleases Him will be too hard for you, sweetie. You have such a beautiful heart and I am always blessed when I visit your blog!
Happy Anniversary and Happy New Year!
Happy New Year, Katrina. I know what you mean about the busyness. I totally did not get my Fall Reading Thing wrapped up. My bad. But I am enjoying reading everyone elses.
Happy New Year! This is my first time even turning on a computer in a week so I’m with you on #3!
Have a wonderful 2009!!
I don’t even want to think about how many baked goods (and candies) have been consumed by this little (ahem) body alone (I’m speaking in faith, speaking in faith…).
Jolanthe
Happy New Year to you and your family and a Happy Belated Anniversary to you. All the very best for the next 15 years.
You mentioned baked goods being consumed I don’t even want to think about how much I consumed, all i know was it was too much.
All the best in 2009
Amen.
Here’s to sharing a wonderful 2009 together.
I am so glad others didn’t blog during the Christmas holidays. I started to feel a little guilty but I’ll let that go right now.
We will celebrate our 15th in March so it must have been a great year to get married expecially for young kids!
Again, congrats on the anniversary. I don’t know why I tend to forget this one. I can identify with L, as we were asleep by 10PM ET, and I don’t live in that time zone. We were awoken by the neighborhood fireworks.
Happy Anniv!
My hubbie and I celebrated 12 years in late Dec….nice to hear you are also still happy and plan to be for a looong time!
I am happily finished trying to avoid the large amount of baked goods in our house…so glad they are gone!
Happy New Year
PS-I made your Christmas Morning French Toast and it was a hit with all…
Thanks for the recipe, it’s a keeper!
Happy Anniversary! Amen on your observations. This is the first year in a very long time that NO ONE got a bike. That felt very weird!!
Loved catching up with you, Katrina! A blog break is so awesome, and your TRUE friends will always wait for you.
Love,
Katherine
Happy anniversary! Any correlation between #5 and #9? If yes, then I have to tell you that my husband keeps asking me if he can buy me a bike; I think if I ever say yes it would totally make his day/year/decade!
