1. Trapper Keepers are back. They went away for a long time, but they’ve recently reappeared. I have fond memories of my own Trapper Keeper — I felt so cool when I got one. Unfortunately, C. doesn’t need any kind of binder this year, just gobs of colored folders. So no Trapper Keeper for him.
2. I am rendered helpless when I see the sign for “10 1-Subject Notebooks for $1.00,” and immediately put a pack in my cart. There’s always something to use 10-cent notebooks for: entertaining 2-year-olds, making lists, starting (but never finishing, if you’re me) a novel. At that price, I just can’t pass them by.
3. I have a strange attraction to Post-It Notes of all kinds. Especially these cards. And these.
4. We ignored math facts all summer. I hadn’t even thought about them, but was reminded of them when I saw flash cards hanging near the scissors and protractors. I’ve made up for it in the past few days, though, much to C.’s consternation. He now has the assignment to do a bunch of multiplication and division problems every day. He’s not exactly loving that.
5. Every time I find a type of pen that I really and truly love, they discontinue it. I have searched high and low through the pens at three different stores with no luck. The pen I love is gone.
6. I get much more excited about school supplies than C. does.
7. C. has very strong opinions about pencils: some don’t sharpen well (they crack or split too easily), some have useless erasers. Ticonderoga is his pencil of choice. Well, he truly prefers mechanical pencils but his list for this year said No Mechanical Pencils. So Ticonderoga it is.
8. Somehow, a pretty notebook, pack of Post-It notes, or other nifty thing (for me!) ends up in the cart whenever we look at school supplies. I’m not sure how that happens. It’s a mystery.
9. As much as I enjoy perusing the school supply aisles and stocking up for the school year, I’m glad that particular task is done for now.

I agree with C., that you have to make your pencil choice wisely. Too many low quality pencils out there.
I like the Ticonderoga as well.
About cheap pencils: My boss bought a pack of ten for $1.33. Gone in as many days(ten). Love Mom
Isn’t it funny how we Mom’s get more excited about the school supplies than they do!
I would die without my Bic yellow plastic mechanical pencils! But kudos to C. for his discerning taste!
I remember those cheap ones–sort of rubbery and bendy that never get a good point — ick!
Yes, I always have some spirals or those composition books on hand. In fact, in spite of the fact that I bought one (or two??) 10-packs last year, I’ve bought more this year. They are truly useful in this family.
Your school shopping sounds a lot like mine. My oldest needed a binder this year for 6th grade; I was so excited about the Trapper Keeper. He not so much.
When we went to Target with the 4 year old for Preschool supplies ( baggies, paper plates, emergency change of clothes) she said ” Oh Momma I need lots more” we bought the real supplies: crayons, pencils, pencil box etc. Guess we’ll keep those at home!
Math Facts!!! Stress! We have not done much math facts this summer.
It still amazes me that I’m old enough for things from my youth to be back in style. My hubby would definitely agree with C. about the quality of pencils and the merits of mechanical over wooden.
I dread the school supply shopping! Mega bucks later (we had 3 in school) we’re carting bags of stuff home. Some of which never gets used but it’s on the list so we have to get it.
We only buy Ticonderoga pencils too! The rest are junk.
The school supply aisle makes me giddy with excitement. My girl has the same reaction.
And Office Max had folders and rulers for a penny each this week! When things are so cheap I stock up for donating to mission organizations.
I love school supplies – its one of the strange reasons I’m sad my son isn’t old enough for school – I want school supplies and homework darnit!
Yay for trapper keepers. I think we all love school supplies. Good memories and all that.
Trapper Keepers, really? I had one when I was younger, but never was allowed to use it at school (I was too young). The big thing when I got a little older were the 5 Star Zipper binders. Much sturder…but much uglier too!
About the pen: that’s awful! I don’t know what I’d do if they stopped making mine. I might just go out and by a bunch, just in case.
Oh gosh, I haven’t thought about a Trapper Keeper in ages! I loved mine.
I have the same problem with pens…I find one I like and they stop making it. Grrrr!
Oh, I so wanted a trapper keeper when I was growing up…but it was never meant to be.
We got our shopping one last weekend so that’s one more thing off the list.
All my kids are grown and gone and do their own school shopping. It’s so sad. But I go get school supplies anyway because, like you, nothing is more thrilling. (Except maybe new books.)
I love school supplies! No mechanical pencils is crazy though!
I was so excited to find notebooks for $.05 each!!! I bought a ton of them, but it still wasn’t enough with 4 kids in school.
Oh, me too.
All of them. I love office supplies – for me or the kids.
And what fun to read about me on your post. *LOL*
I am unashamed in my love for Post Its. I nearly died at the Post It AISLE at Staples. An AISLE! I nearly took a picture to post on my blog, except I didn’t have a camera.
Speaking of school supplies, I spent a small fortune this year. Can you believe the price of binders?
I am right there with you on #8! Um, even when not specifically shopping for school supplies. Or, anytime I’m set free in Target without an agenda!
