Home Again

We’re here. Home. Intact.

I’ll post pictures next week which will prove that, despite the screaming, and despite the flesh-wound, we had a nice time on our little trip.

For now, I’m looking at piles of bags. A suitcase, a super-sized diaper bag, a bag of books, a bag of dirty laundry. I don’t particularly feel like dealing with them, but I know I will, for the most part, before I go to bed tonight. As much as I hate unpacking, I can’t ever fully relax until I feel like I have a handle on all the “stuff.” While not an overly-organized person, I do have some organization standards. And dealing (kind of) quickly with the post-vacation mess is one of them.

And speaking of organization, hop over to 5 Minutes for Mom to read my review of the NEAT Receipts for Mac scanner. It’s one of my favorite new gadgets and will be getting lots of use. They’re giving away five of them, so if you have a Mac and could use a nifty scanner, be sure to put your name in the drawing.

Oh, and I’m curious. When do you deal with post-vacation “stuff”? Right away? The next day? Over the course of the next week? When does it start to drive you crazy?

right away. otherwise it drives me crazy…and kids start digging through bags.

But, I’m the girl that makes sure the house is all picked up and do a quick run through before we leave to put stuff in place so that when we return…it’s ready to receive all our STUFF!

I’m horrible at about dealing with it. I usually deal with the dirty close fairly quickly but anything clean can end up staying in the suitcase until a)I need it or b)a month later I realize I really need to put up the suitcase. Horrible I know.

What a terrible question for bringing on the guilt! There have been times I dealt with it when it was ready to pack for the next vacation and our luggage was still full . . .

I have to deal with it right away, as soon as possible. It’s like I can’t return to normal until I do. Then again, I don’t have a place to hide “stuff” well so I need to get it out of sight quickly!

Glad you had a good time; looking forward to your pictures.

I have pretty low standards, but I don’t really like it hanging around either.

I usually begin to unpack right away–toiletries of course, and then the laundry.

My downfall is that the empty (or mostly empty) bags usually stick around for a while. Case in point–the duffle bags from the trip from which we returned last Sunday are still out.

Glad you all had a nice trip! I deal with the unpacking as we are pulling into the driveway – which drives Michael crazy!

Welcome home. I never deal with it the same day we come home, except to get the toiletries back to where they belong. But the next day I get at it because it’s depressing having it laying around. My kids on the other hand will let suitcases sit in the middle of their rooms for more than a week if I don’t get on them about it. I guess they think that eventually some unpacking fairies will come and do it. Strange kids. :v)

Well, I generally deal with the dirty clothes fairly quickly (laundry is a full time job around here what with four boys, you know). But the clean stuff that we didn’t get around to wearing? And the toiletries? They have been known to sometimes remain in the suitcases for, well, too long. Of course, now that the boys are older, I can make them unpack–one of the great joys of surviving toddlerhood!
