Book Giveaway: Teaching Your Children Healthy S*exuality

Happy Thursday, everyone. Today I have one last book from Bethany House to give away. But before we look at that, here’s the winner for last week’s book, The Forbidden. The winner is:

Katy Lin
Congrats!

Now for this week’s book. If it sounds like a book you’d like and you want to be eligible to win it, just leave a comment on this post and I’ll put your name in the virtual hat. I’ll leave the post open for comments until the following Wednesday at noon. I’ll then randomly pick a commenter and announce that person as the winner next Thursday. Please make sure that when you leave a comment, you include an email address so I can contact you easily. Also, I apologize to any international readers, but these giveaways are limited to readers in the U.S. or Canada.

(I apologize in advance for inserting a bunch of *’s in this post — it’s just my attempt to keep inappropriate web searches from listing my blog. Thanks for your understanding!)

Teaching Your Children Healthy S*exuality
by Jim Burns
It’s not just the birds and the bees anymore.

You may have been eleven once, but you were never their age. Thanks to the Internet, graphic images in the media, and their “know-it-all” friends, kids today grow up earlier than ever. They have questions, and as a parent, your responsibility is to clear up the mixed messages and lead them to a healthy, value-centered view of s*exuality. Sure, conversations with your kids about s*ex and their changing bodies can be uncomfortable, but they don’t have to be. Jim Burns gives expert advice on how and when to talk with your children, and he provides answers to the most difficult questions your kids and teens might ask, like:

  • How far is too far?
  • If you do “everything but s*ex,” are you still a virgin?
  • Is self-stimulation wrong?
  • I think I’m addicted to p*orn. What can I do to get help?
  • Is a boy/girl sleepover okay if there’s a chaperone?

The world’s culture may have cheapened s*ex, but God’s view of s*exuality is wonderfully made. Talking with your kids at a young age will help them make more godly decisions along the way, but they’ll need conversation with you at every age. This is your opportunity to establish in them a lasting s*exual integrity that will extend throughout their lives.

I would love this book. I have an 11 yo son. My husband covered this “lesson” for home school this year, and is now deployed. I’m sure they’ll be more questions – and I need to get comfortable with giving the answers!

With a nine year old daughter in the house, I know this is going to come in handy! In fact, if you don’t pick me, I’m going to order it anyway! (But you can still pick me!)

Yikes. The Boss was just telling me the other day that we really should deepen the dialogue with LadyBug soon. He had to with our older boys at a very young age, due to some incidents at their school recess. But I’m “in charge” with LadyBug and this book would really help!

I’m sure my husband could use this, since we only have boys…ha! I think we have a good handle on the topic with our 9 year old…but the 6 year old is going to need a different approach I’m sure.
