Believe it or not, we’re about halfway through spring, which means we’re also about halfway through Spring Reading Thing 2008.
So…inquiring minds want to know:
- How are you doing with your Spring Reading Thing list?
- Have you stuck to the list or changed it up a bit?
- Are you halfway (or more) through your books?
As for me, I am (as predicted) zipping right through my fiction books. I have about one and a half left to go (and, of course, I already have another pile of fiction waiting for me). I’m currently in the middle of Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult. It’s good, but it’s also sad, so I’ll be glad to move onto something a bit more light-hearted next (The Princess Bride).
And in the nonfiction department? Well, I’ve read 3.5 of the 6 that I put on my list. But I have also slowed down dramatically. Part of the reason for that is just my usual struggle to finish nonfiction. The other part is that I’ve been doing a number of blog tours for books that weren’t on my list, so I read them instead of reading my SRT books.
I’ll give more details about which books I’ve loved which I slogged through at the end of the challenge, but I just thought it would be nice to check in and see how everyone’s doing. Leave me a comment letting me know how you’re coming along.

I’m a little over half way through my last book. Of course, I cheated by adding a whole bunch of Stephanie Plum books…

Well, I read 8 books in April for example – 2 were on my SRT list. Took a tangent with some young adult fiction I’ve been prereading for my neice (Artemis Fowl books by Eoin Colfer).
I’m on the fourth of seven, so I am right at half-way, plus I read one or tow not on the list.
You’ll love Princess Bride! I just read it last year.
It’s going well – here’s a post about it:
http://notjustreading.blogspot.com/2008/05/spring-reading-thing-2008-halfway.html
I’ve read 5 out of 15. Compared to March my reading really slowed down in April. Hopefully I’ll be back on track in May. I’m going to the beach so I should get lots read there
Wow–halfway? I’m doing okay actually. I’ve read many that are on my list and a few that aren’t as well.
My big reading time (my vacation) is coming up in a couple weeks, so I’ll catch up then.
Actually, my nonfiction is a bit slow as well.
I’ve got five books left from my original list but I have added several books to my list! Like a dozen or so, I think?
I am just about half way through my list. We are going on vacation soon, so I hope to make some progress!!!
Honestly? LOL Got four started and none finished! LOL Nearly done with two, just started a third, and the fourth is a doorstop I’ve been working on since the get-go.
I’ve read all but one on my original list and several that weren’t, mostly for blog tours.
I, like you, have added some blog tour books to the list. One of them being a whole series. The one on blog tour was the third in the series, but I just can’t read the 3rd without reading the first two. LOL. Throw in there my oldests graduation and I think I’m getting a bit behind. Oh well, once this grad thing is over I hopefully will get back into it.
i’ve read 18 out 25 books, and currently reading 2 still on the list. that’s in addition to the numerous other books i’ve read that weren’t on my list lol.
Hey, Katrina
I was only challenging myself to read 4 books off the list I made, and guess what…for the first time EVER, I finished one of your challenges! LOL.
I read 4 already — and am plugging along, trying to read a few more before the official end of the challenge.
So, thanks so much for hosting these … I totally love these challenges!
I’ve read 2 1/2 of my 4 non-fiction books and 2 of my 4 fiction. Hopefully, I’ll actually be able to finish them all in the next 6 weeks or so. Right now I’m pretty pleased with myself for having completed more non-fiction than fiction and for staying on track since the boy was born 3 weeks ago.
Wow, half way already! Where has the time gone! I have completed 2 from my list and I am a good bit way through the other 4. But I think I need to step up a notch!
I’m doing ok with mine, but still haven’t done the non-fiction book! I’m very bad about non-fiction & need to get with it. I’ve read a few extra that weren’t on my srt list & accidentally put 1 on the list that was the 3rd in a series so I’ll have to read the other 2 before I can get to it!
I read a Picoult book last fall that took me a week or more to sort of “get over”…I tend to space those out.
Hmmm…1/2 way? Maybe not quite, but it doesn’t help that I keep adding books to the list of must reads.
Story of my life. I’m adding one on Sensory Processing Disorder and will post a review when I can–of course it’s not on my original list, but is an important book for me to be reading right.now. Funny how God tweaks our lists. And life. Blessings to you this week, and thanks again for hosting the Spring Reading Thing.
Wow, time flies! I’ve done pretty good with my list, my original list that is, I’ve read all but two on it. I’ve added quite a few books to my list though. Right now I’m reading Death of a Garage Sale Newbie and loving it.
3 out of 8 on my list!!! YIKES
Better get goin!! Bitsy
I have been enjoying this! THanks for starting it. here’s a link to my halfway point review.

I am doing very well with the fiction on my SRT list and moving more slowly on the non-fiction. That is unusual for me! I guess I am just in a fiction mood. I will definitely reach my reading goal and so far, so good on my goal of publishing a book review each Friday of the challenge.

Note to self: while public libraries are so absolutely amazing, they are not so when you have a deadline to read a book (or books)! Both the fiction books I listed still have yet to come in, but I am working on some other great works that I didn’t list, because I just discovered them! As for my non-fiction – still a little dusty. Maybe next week when I am an offical SAHM!
I’ve just barely started number 10 of 25 on my original list. Considering I thought I might make it through 14, I’d say I’m doing pretty well.
My list of completed books is on my sidebar and I have done 3 book reviews. I’ve added a couple of fiction books to my list (I read 19 Minutes last august right before sending my oldest off to high school….dear Lord. what was I thinking??!!). I’m currently in Midwives and finishing up Prince Caspian as well as a Bible Study book.
Gosh! I’ve only finished one book, but am reading 3 right now. I posted an update at http://tiffany-becauseimthemommy.blogspot.com/2008/05/spring-reading-thing-2008-halfway-point.html
I’m plugging right along. I ended up reading at least one that was not on my list. I might have added it, but I don’t remember. I also want to read Home — Julie Andrews autobiography — which isn’t on my list.
Mostly, the fiction is easiest, but I’m bogged down in Sense and Sensibility. I’ve read 2 other fiction books, and am working on 2 non-fiction.
I have the worst problem with adding books to my list before I have finished the ones already on the list. SO, I’ve read a lot of books that I added, but not all my books that were from the original list. They are next, I am aking myself do it. I am having fun though!!
I was trying to make my way through C.S. Lewis’ books this spring, and I’m about one third of the way there. I’m probably going to cheat and read some while I’m camping this summer!
But it’s been great reading them. I feel like I’m WAAAY smart now!
Visit To Love, Honor and Vacuum today!
Halfway through Spring. How astonishing is that? I’m still remembering frost-bitten days and the barren branches of winter.
I’m getting there! Still a bunch left, but I’ve now been put on bed rest for the rest of my pregnancy, so I have lots of reading time!
I’ve read 6 of my 9 fiction titles, but I have to add one because I forgot The Host was coming out this month.
I’m only partway through the first of my 5 nonfiction.
I’m sure I’ll easily finish the fiction, but I might trim the non-fiction list a bit.
Oh my! I’ve not been doing well. I have had very little time to read lately. I am reading a book that isn’t on my list so I think I will add it on.
I’m mostly through the “want-to’s” — one left, and it’s sitting in my stack of library books — but having difficulty progressing through my “should”s. I’ve started a couple of them, but somehow keep getting interrupted in the finishing of them.
Hi! I started sooooo late, I only put 12 books on my list; and so far I have read seven of them. So, I guess I am more then half-way through. Thanks so much for hosting! It’s like a kick in the pants to read, which is exactly what I needed.
I actually just finished my last book and review. I put up a wrap up post here
I really enjoyed what I read, thanks for hosting
I’m running true to form. Ihave nice list, and then I read everything but the books in my list!
Just wanted to invite every body to
a free books site.
*sigh* I think I’m going to flunk out yet again…
I’m about halfway through so I’m on track. I posted about it here. http://funinthesunmom.blogspot.com/2008/04/spring-reading-thing-update.html
Like a lot of other commentators, I keep finding books to read that aren’t on my list lol! There should be some sort of one time “swap clause” or something lol.
I think I am doing great on mine – had a great reading month in April – have slowed down for May though because of a gigantic project I had due at school and midterms are this week.
I was really busy during april, so i’m doing some catching up this month, but i think i can do it!
My next two books are middlesex and the kite runner, which both look like they’ll take a lot of concentration. hope you liked nineteen minutes! it’s one of my favorites! sad, but still such a good read.
Spring Thing has been great for me!! I had a goal of completing the Themed Reading Challenge and to read 11 books. For some reason April saw me reading a record number of books 8! I know to some that isn’t much, but it is for me! I have 4 books that were on my original list but I have completed an additional 3 so far that weren’t on the original list. So being 1/2 through I think I am in good shape. I am not sure if I will swat the 4 new ones for the original. I might try to read the originals also…we’ll see.
Thanks again for hosting this challenge!! I love the flexibility!
Distracted…completely distracted from the original list. It was as if the moment I made the list I lost interest in half the books…mostly the non-fiction. And other books have taken their place. It could make my final post more interesting…maybe.
I just finished the books from the Mitford Series that were on my list. I’m now continuing on with the series.
I’m nearly done with my list. The only books that remain are a couple that I am on the waiting list for at the library.
I took a couple of books off the list that I discovered that I had already read but those are the only changes that I’ve made to the original list.
The other books that I have read I am adding to a separate section on that original post. That section is going to get quite long in the next couple of weeks because I am officially unemployed (between jobs and school)
