UPDATE: If you’re looking for the place to sign up, just click HERE to go to the “Let’s Go” post for Fall Into Reading 2007.
Though the temperature in our part of the country has been anything but cool and crisp, the calendar tells me that it is indeed September and that fall starts this year on September 23rd. And so, it is time for the Fall Into Reading 2007 reading challenge! Fall inspires me to bake, to put on jeans and sweaters, and to curl up with a good book as often as possible. I hope you’ll join me in making reading a big part of your own fall plans.
Here is how the Fall Into Reading 2007 challenge will work:
Who: Fall Into Reading 2007 is open to anyone and everyone! As long as you can read, you can participate!
What: Fall Into Reading 2007 is a casual, low-pressure challenge. The point is simply to provide motivation to read, and to provide an opportunity for all of us to set goals when it comes to our personal (or family) reading. As a participant, all you’ll have to do is make a list of books you’d like to read (or books you’d like to finish!) this fall. We’ll share our goals with each other, and then share our experience and results when the challenge is over.
When: Yes, you guessed it. Fall Into Reading 2007 will take place throughout the fall of 2007. The official dates are September 23rd through December 21st.
Where: Here, and on particpants’ blogs all over the blogosphere. I’ll put up a Mr. Linky on September 23rd where everyone can submit a link to their own Fall Into Reading 2007 blog post. All I ask is that you share your goals and list of books in your post, and that you include a link back to the post here that contains the Mr. Linky.
Why: Because reading is a wonderful thing, and I like to do my part to share the love of reading with as many people as possible. But also because a challenge often gives me the motivation I need to read books I’ve been “meaning to read” or to finish books that I got half-way through and then abandoned. I use challenges as an opportunity to incorporate some variety into my reading (I tend to fall into reading ruts) and to try out new authors or new genres. My hope is that Fall Into Reading 2007 will give you the motivation and opportunity you need to reach your own reading goals.
How: The start of Fall Into Reading 2007 is less than two weeks away, so start thinking about your goals now. Keep a list. Make a pile. Visit the library. Talk to friends. I’m sure it won’t take long for you to get an idea of what you want to read this fall. Work on your post and then come back here on September 23rd, ready to submit your link!
Be sure to let your blog readers know about Fall Into Reading 2007 so that they, too, can be part of the reading frenzy. Feel free to grab the button from this post or from my sidebar and use it on your blog.
You might also want to check out past reading challenges, either to get some ideas for books you want to add to your own list, or to see how participants wrote their posts. Just look over in my sidebar for the section on previous reading challenges. You’ll find everything you need right there.
And, of course, what would a reading challenge be without a prize? As in previous challenges, I’ll be awarding a $10 Amazon.com gift certificate to one random participant. To be eligible for this prize, you’ll need to: post your initial Fall Into Reading 2007 blog post (and add it to the Mr. Linky that will be here) by midnight on September 26th AND post a wrap-up blog post (and add it to the wrap-up Mr. Linky that will be on this blog) by midnight on December 24th. I’ll choose one lucky person at random as the winner.
In addition, Bethany House Publishers is sending me a box of books to give away this fall as well. I’ll be giving away one book per week, beginning Thursday, September 27th. You do not have to be an official Fall Into Reading 2007 participant in order to be eligible for these giveaways. Just come on by and leave a comment to enter each drawing.
Well, you better get started on your list. Mine is in progress, but I still have some tweaking to do. See you back here on the first day of fall!

So happy to see this in my google reader! Looking forward to the challenge….are you allowed to overlap this with other challenges (i.e. have the same books on this challenge as you have on another reading challenge?)
Oh, yes, absolutely. Feel free to overlap. My “challenges” are always super-flexible, so adjust them to meet your needs!
Yippee! I’ll be baaackk!

I can’t believe it’s time once again for this! I am ready.
I am so ready for this! My TBR pile is once again, embarrassingly scattered in piles around my den and bedroom. I can’t wait to develop a plan of attack. Thanks for these challenges, Katrina, I love ‘em!

YAY!!! I’ve been buying books just for this event…I’m SO stoked!!
Can hardly wait. I’m ready to go except for finishing off one more summer book! Working hard on it.
Yet another reason I love fall!!
I need the challenge to help me finish the non-fiction books I’ve started. I’m halfway into three of them but always put my fiction books first. This would be a great thing for me.
I’m so excited! I might have to skip the month of November though. NaNoWriMo you know. Can’t wait til the 23rd. See you all back here!

Katrina, I just wanted to compliment you on your blog. From the Fall into Reading to the game reviews and daily snippets from your life, I really enjoy stopping by. I’ll be sure to participate in your reading challenge.
Blessings,
Gretchen
Just because I’m clueless, can you share with me where the linky stuff is to put the clicky button thingy on my blog? Thanks!
