Spring Reading Thing — One Week Left!

Believe it or not, the start of summer is only one week away. Here at our house, it already feels like summer. School’s out, the schedule (schedule? what schedule?) is more relaxed, and the temperatures are soaring. But when it comes to the “official” start of the summer season, that’s still one week away. And with the start of summer, as you know, comes the end of spring…and the Spring Reading Thing.

So what does that mean? It means you still have one week to see how far you can get with your goals (that is, for those of us who haven’t finished — I know a whole bunch of you already completed your books!), and it means you have a week to think about what you’ll write in your wrap-up post.

Basically, I’d like your recap post to be just that — a post letting us all know how the Spring Reading Thing went for you. But because I’m sure everyone would like to know a bit more than “It went great,” here are some questions for you to consider answering as part of your post:

  • What was the best book you read this spring?
  • What book could you have done without?
  • Did you try out a new author this spring? If so, which one, and will you be reading that author again?
  • If there were books you didn’t finish, tell us why. Did you run out of time? Realize those books weren’t worth it?
  • Did you come across a book or two on other participants’ lists that you’re planning to add to your own to-be-read pile? Which ones?
  • What did you learn — about anything – through this challenge? Maybe you learned something about yourself or your reading style, maybe you learned not to pick so many nonfiction books for a challenge, maybe you learned something from a book you read. Whatever it is, share!
  • What was the best part of the Spring Reading Thing?
  • Would you be interested in participating in another reading challenge this fall?
  • Any other thoughts, impressions, or comments.

Post your wrap-up post on your blog next Thursday, June 21st, and then come by here to sign up on the Mr. Linky that I’ll put up that morning.

I won’t be hosting a summer reading challenge, but I do plan to come back in the fall with another one. Twice a year for hosting challenges feels just about right for me, and to be honest, I enjoy having a little unstructured break in between challenges. However, I know there are always reading challenges going on in the blog-world, so if any of you are hosting one this summer, feel free to tell us about it in the comments — for all of those who are ready to jump into another one!

Well, I better get back to my book. :)

This was a great challenge for me. I really enjoyed it. I’ll look forward to reading everyone’s wrap-up posts next week. Can you believe it’s June 21st almost?

I missed out on the Spring Reading challenge- but I’m already getting worked up for the Fall one! Can’t wait!

I love your reading challenges and am already looking forward to and thinking on which books I want to sink my teeth, or rather eyes, into this fall! :v)

Hard to believe we are so near the end…I remember when we began thinking how FAR OFF June sounded! And here we are!

By the way, I got my book earlier this week–autographed and all! What fun! Thanks so much for handling the book giveaways in addition to the challenge!

I am definitely up for Fall, but like you, I like the breaks. Two a year is good.

I am going to be doing a “Read Together” challenge this summer–similar to my Read to Me mission earlier this year. It’s to encourage families to read and discuss books together (but not necessarily aloud). I will have details up on Monday, probably, but I will definitely link to it in my wrap-up reading post, so if anyone is interested, they can check it out then!

Katrina, your reading program is such a great idea. I’m sad that I didn’t learn about it until a few days ago.

I decided that since you’re not going to do one for the summer, I would. I borrowed a lot of your ideas, but put links to your site all over the place. (I hope that’s okay.) You can see it here:

Anyone who’d like to do a Summer Reading Thing, come on over and join up.

Oh my word – how time flies!!

I can’t beleive the 3 months are up – I think I mentioned in comments before that I’m like you, Katrina. It is sooooo easy for me to read fiction and not so easy for me to read non-fiction. But I’m pushing hard to get my last book finished.
