Spring Reading Thing — Book giveaway and Halfway Point

As I mentioned in the Spring Reading Thing kick-off post, I’ll be giving away books to two random participants who have done at least one book review from their Spring Reading Thing list. The first giveaway is… Today!

Congratulations, Amy!

I also want to thank everyone who has sent me links to their reviews. I haven’t been able to get another list together with links because I have received literally hundreds of links to reviews. Can you believe it? Hundreds!! You guys are amazing. I, however, am not nearly amazing enough to get them all into a nice formatted post. Please know that I do stop by and read the reviews every chance I get. You all are doing great!

I encourage anyone looking for Spring Reading Thing reviews to click through the participant blogroll in my sidebar every now and then — you’re bound to come across reviews. Also, check out comments to this post and this post — many people have put their links or mentioned their reviews there.

SO… we’re about halfway through spring. How’s everyone doing? Are you getting through your books? Have you changed your list? Added to it? Taken books off? I’d love if you’d leave me a comment to let me know how it’s going.

As I suspected, I’ve torn through the fiction on my list — I’m on my last one. But I’ve only completed one of my non-fictions and I’m starting to despair of finishing them all. This spring has turned out to be a lot crazier than I had planned. I’m not giving up yet though – there’s still time!

I’m with you, Katrina. I’m doing really well with the fiction, but have barely started the non-fiction. I can’t believe we’re already halfway done!

  2. Stephanie says:

Out of the eleven books I have on my list, I have finished I think five of them (not too bad for me). I haven’t altered my list at all but have had to make room for books I am reading for my book clubs. My newest review of The Kitchen Boy is here: http://thewrittenword.wordpress.com/2007/05/01/the-kitchen-boy/

Like you, Katrina – I burned through my fiction (my “brain candy” LOL) and am now staring at a tall list of non-fiction “good-for-me” books *wink*

I’ve completed more than my goal but would like to get a few more done.

But,I did want to thank you for getting my “reading fire” back that I lost (meaning lost motivation, interest, and time) when the Vikings were born!

    YOU ROCK!

Here is my original post. I have completed two fiction, am in the process of reading two nonfiction, and have one of each untouched, left to start. I think I chose a reasonable number of books. Fiction is easier to read quickly, but nonfiction is good to balance it out, I believe.

This is a very crazy spring, I agree with you!!!

  5. Barbara H. says:

I’ve finished 3 (2 of them fiction), am in the middle of two, and have 5 more to go, so I am a little behind. The non-fiction ones always take me longer. Plus I couldn’t resist buying 3 more at the Christian bookstore yesterday (blush). I’ll try to resist them until I go through my list, though they are awfully appealing.

  6. 4andcounting says:

I have read 4 on my list. I don’t remember off the top of my head how many are on my list. Loving the Harry Potter books and thinking I should have read them ages ago.

  7. Joyful Days says:

I’ve read 6 of my original 16. I’ve gotten sidetracked and read a few extras. Fiction is just so easy. Non fiction…not so much.

With my boys we kind of bunnytrailed and read some that weren’t on the list and then refocused. Sigh. There is not enough time to read all we want. Maybe I should give up eating…Naaahhh.

I’ve added some I was in the mood for. I’m so glad you started this! We, at least I will be reading people’s reviews for a long time.

    Thanks Katrina!

  9. Beckyb says:

I don’t think I’m even halfway through my list either!! They have been good though. Reviews can be found by clicking under the Spring Thing Logo in the sidebar.

  10. Deborah says:

i’ve read 13 out of 31 so far..the problem is that i keep on getting new books that i add to the list! but now that school’s done i have plenty of time to finish my list and then some.

  11. Emily says:

Katrina, what if you put up another Mr. Linky, and we could all link to our reviews? That way you don’t have to format anything, and we can all share our reviews with each other. I know I really appreciate reading other peoples’ reviews, because it gives me good ideas for the next books I want to read. Just a thought!

  12. Debi says:

Is it really almost half-way through? Argh. I’m only one-sixth of the way through my pile. Guess I better go grab my book.
    Have a great weekend!

    Katrina -

I just have to say “thank you!” For the first time in a long, long time I have “taken” the time to read and I likely would have not if it had not been for this Reading Challend. And, I’m LOVING every moment – both my parenting books and fiction. I have finished probably 4-5 with about 4 or 5 going at the same time. I even went out and bought cute new bookmarks. Thanks so much for initiating this!!

  14. susan says:

I found some great fiction book reviews. You can also see those reviews in Non fiction book

  15. Lynne says:

I only had 5 on my list but I’ve finished them all. Thanks for hosting this challenge!

  16. Susan Helene Gottfried says:

Ooh, I’ll have to go check my original list and compare, since we’re halfway. I added four, but didn’t remove any… there’s no way I’ll get through them all (I have 16 left), but it’s fun to try!

  17. Alice Teh says:

    Hi Katrina,

I’ve done up a ‘progress report’ on Apr 30. Here’s the link:)

I’m left with ONE more book on the list and hope to finish it before the due date. Currently also reading some fiction.

    Have a pleasant weekend!

  18. sally906 says:

I’ve read one already – and am reading my second now (P is for Peril by Sue Grafton)

I Have two more to go – but I have missed the bit about having to have a non-fiction so may have swap one on my list for a TBR non-fiction – or add one :)

  19. Deena says:

Don’t feel bad, Katrina…I’m doing well on fiction, but lagging on non-fiction…and I’ve added more to my list twice:-)

This was a good thing, but I don’t know if I’ll meet my own challenge…

  20. Jennifer says:

When I recently assessed my list, I was surprised that I was actually doing better on my non-fiction than my fiction! In fact, I’m reading another fiction book that I’ve been wanting to read and finally got inspired to read. It’s not on the list, but that’s okay.

    I’m reading–a good bit–and that is what’s important.

  21. Sheryl says:

Your last paragraph sooo describes me! I’ve even read fiction I didn’t list…sadly, my non-fiction is plugging along way too slowly!!
Thanks for doing this…I’ve really enjoyed the challenge :)

  22. Rachel Langston says:

I knew when I created it that my list was TOO LONG for me to finish, but I wrote it all down anyway.

I have finished at least 3 of the books on my original list and I have added some different ones.

I am normally deep in the throes of something non-fiction, but I had a few days where I went on a fiction binge.

I love that I am making my reading intentional and I appreciate THE SPRING READING THING for giving me a reason to do that!

  23. Dawn ; ) says:

I started my list 6 books and have since added 3 and removed 2. I’ve read at least 4 of them which means I have about 4 to go. ;D

    Here is my update:

    Happy Reading!

  24. Amy says:

    Katrina,

I just wanted to let you know I received this book in the mail. Thanks so much. I am excited to read it.
