Six weird things meme

Ages ago, Kelli tagged me for a meme and I am just now getting around to it. Sorry for the delay, Kelli!

The idea with this meme is: List “6 weird things about you”, then tag six other people to do the meme. Sadly, coming up with six weird things about me was not difficult. In fact, for me the process was more like “pare down the long list of weird things about me into only six items.”

1. I have “eye issues.” As in, I cannot stand to have anything get close to my eyes — I totally freak out. In fact, the first time I passed out, it was in the eye doctor’s office. He had dilated my eyes, and was moving in on them with some kind of machine, and the next thing I knew, I was waking up on the floor and he was laughing, saying, “Whoa – thought we lost you there.” If there is something in my eye, no one else can get it out – I have to get it out myself. I also wear glasses, and while I like the idea of contacts, I’m afraid I’d never be able to wear them; I can’t imagine sticking things in my eyes every morning.

2. I have a special way of eating Lucky Charms. First of all, I don’t remember the last time I ate them – it’s been quite a while. But when I do, I have to eat them in order. First, the oat cereal things, and then the marshmallows. The marshmallows are usually eaten two at a time, by type (e.g. hearts first, then moons, although I don’t really have a particular order for the types). I promise I’m not this weird about everything I eat, but some foods are just calling out to be eaten a certain way! (Or…maybe I’m just weird.)

3. I tend to accidentally cut myself with kitchen utensils. Not all the time, but often enough that my husband is sometimes nervous when I start wielding the santoku knife. I’m actually very careful when I’m cutting things, but when I go to clean the knife, I apparently abandon all sense of cutlery safety. Neosporin and Band-Aids are my friends.

4. There is a very long list of foods I don’t like. Many of these foods are normal, everyday-type things. And I’ll eat them if I’m at someone’s house and they’ve served them to me. But given the choice, I pass them by. They include: pickles, mayonnaise, olives, mushrooms, most seafood, cauliflower, Doritos (I know!! But give me plain old chips any day.), most herbal teas… I could go on for quite some time, but I’ll stop here.

5. I am an unbelievably light sleeper. The tiniest creak, a car going by on the road outside, our cat jumping down from the bed to the floor – any of these can wake me up instantly. Also, I fall asleep at night just fine, but once I’m awakened, it takes me for.ev.er. to get back to sleep. This is one thing I’d love to change about myself. It would be awesome if I could fall asleep, stay asleep, and sleep through normal nighttime noises more easily!

6. I am so-very-much not a girly-girl. I hate wearing heels, I’d live in jeans and sweatshirts if I could, I don’t own a single pink item of clothing, I don’t like “dressing up and going out,” and I don’t wear much jewelry (I have a few pieces from Chad that I love and wear regularly, but other than that, I don’t know the meaning of the word “accessorize.”).

I hope I didn’t scare away all my readers with those six confessions of my weird-ness!

Hmm…. who(m) shall I tag?

I’ll tag… Jennifer and Dianne (because they’re stuck with knowing me IRL, so they always get tagged by me), and I’ll tag my two brothers-in-law who blog (Garr and Byrn) -because they have been slackers in their blog habits and it’s time for them to get going on that again… that leaves two more to tag. I’ll leave those two slots open – whoever would like to share six weird things about themselves, go for it! Be sure to let me know, though, so I can come read your list and not have to feel like I’m the only weird out there. As always, I’m never offended if my tag-ees have no desire, time, or inclination to do the meme – no pressure!

  1. The Wooden Porch says:

Yes, you are quite weird I must say…

I would have pegged you for a girlie-girl. I think it’s funny when I read these and realize that the people who have blogs that I read are actually not exactly like me.

That was a fun list! Happy Monday.

  2. Anonymous says:

now I understand why camden did the m&m’s by color…nice to see you are blogging again

    from The Villages…. Beth

  3. Beck says:

Your special way of eating Lucky Charms is pretty different! My kids just eat the marshmallows.
I always thought I was a light sleeper – it turns out that I could sleep (and have!) through a tornado. Oops.

  4. Susanne says:

You and my oldest daughter are totally alike in the girly department!

LOL to Neosporin and Bandaids are my friends. You know what they say, you should be buying stock in the company’s from which you tend to really use thier products.

  5. Southern Girl says:

I am the same way as to #1! Although I’ve never actually keeled over. ;) It’s especially bad with pointy objects — I can’t look too closely at a needle or even fork tines without involuntarily squinting and drawing away to avoid getting punctured in my eyeballs.

I’m glad someone else is weird like me. :-D

  6. Dianne says:

Yours were fun to read. Nice to know we’re not weird alone, huh? Thanks for the el-taggo!

  7. Linda says:

I still like you just fine!! I know about the sleeping thing. I would give anything to sleep one whole night through.
And the eating thing – I sometimes (and this is truly weird) make my food into little characters and eat them according to the story-line. Weird!!

I did the meme on my site http://qtpies7.blogspot.com/2007/01/six-weird-things-meme.html. I don’t think you are that weird. I couldn’t stop posting weird things about me, lol, and I didn’t think I could come up with 6. I AM a girly-girl, I would wear all dresses all the time if it were more convenient, and wasn’t so COLD in Minnesota! I LOVE to wear jewelry. And I used to cut myself all the time, but I seem to have outgrown that clutziness, thankfully. I’m weird about food, too.

  9. Christine says:

    Love the Lucky Charms one!

  10. Kathleen Marie says:

Cute meme but if I only had to limit myself to six weird things…I am just weird all over! ?

  11. Jennifer says:

Fun to know the truth about you.

Can you believe that I hadn’t checked in with you until now? Tuesday evening? and you posted this Monday morning? I thought I had, but maybe it was just before you had gotten this up.
