WFMW: Baby Stuff

This week, you get a three-fer from me. Three, yes three, tips on this fine Wednedsday morning. All pertaining to the fine art (actually the helpless winging-it) of baby care.

Tip #1 – 1800diapers.com

My sister-in-law, Amber, clued me in to this website and it is now the place where I purchase formula, diapers, and wipes. The prices are very competitive – after I did the math, I’m saving at least $20 per month on baby supplies. And if you plan ahead and order a bunch of stuff at the same time (or combine your order with another mom in need of diapers), shipping is free (for orders over $45). The best part is, it’s all delivered to your front door, so you don’t have to fight crowds, try to keep the baby from screaming in Target, etc. Just click, pay, and wait for it to arrive. And, they allow you to use manufacturers’ coupons – just mail them in, and you’ll be able to apply the discount to your next order. Even more savings!

Tip #2 – Mixing formula

I’ve got one word here. Okay, make that one picture:
Use one of these to mix your formula. Saves time, energy, and – if you were previously shaking each bottle by hand or stirring a pitcher of formula vigorously with a spoon – it saves you from developing one forearm that looks strangely like Popeye’s.

Tip #3 – Regarding #2

No, not regarding tip #2, but regarding…you know, #2. So, if you don’t want to read about…you know…then you should stop here.

Okay, you’ve been warned…

Moms all know – poop happens. And in our house, it happens every 2-3 days. Yes, only once every 2-3 days, but when it arrives, it’s…well, toxic. Anyway, my tip is: to dispose of really stinky diapers without smelling up the house, the garage, or whatever portion of your home or yard holds the garbage can, put them (the dirty diapers, not the garbage cans) in heavy-duty Ziploc freezer bags. Smell=gone. And there’s no use recommending a diaper genie. ‘Cause, sadly, a diaper genie will do absolutely nothing to contain the, uh, “strength” of my little boy’s diapers.

I see you took your funny pill again this morning.

That diaper website is pretty cool. I especially like the coupon thing, because I never have them with me, but I could send them in after the fact. And no tax–you save there, too.

  2. Lindsay says:

AWESOME tips! I am off to check out that site right now!

  3. Overwhelmed! says:

Love these tips! We have a diaper genie that works quite well, but I’ve used the Ziplock bag technique when traveling. It works like a charm! Thanks for sharing!

I’ve posted a WFMW baptism gift tip. Stop by and take a peek. :)

Teeheehee… you made me giggle! ;o) I don’t currently have one in diapers, but my sister’s is a week old — will definitely pass these along!

ahh #2 happens. Thanks for the tip and the new catchphrase.

  6. Laura says:

this is great timing for me with #2 (the baby, not the poop) due in December. i’m on my way to check out that site. and the diaper genie worked for the first few months, but after solids were introduced…forget it.

  7. Kathleen Marie says:

Oh, and I agree wholeheartedly about the diaper genie. Worthless when it comes to odor!

  8. org junkie says:

Hello! I’ll look into the diaper website and see if it does anything for Canada…you just never know right. Thanks for the tip! Laura

  9. Gina says:

Great tips, but I’m sooo glad I’m out of that stage. Uh, at least I thought I was until we gave our puppy a steak bone and he got the runs! YUCK!

Katrina, what great tips! I’ll tell my daughter (new mommy) about the website tomorrow. We’re price checking on diapers and formula tomorrow at Sams, so it should be a good comparison. Also she bought something a lot like the formula mixer thing at Babies R Us, for $3.99 and it works great too, if anyone wants one a bit cheaper. I forget what it’s called but it’s white plastic, and works great. Right now newborn poops every single diaper so she’s not at the freezer bag stage, but that tip cracked me up.
