He’s got it all figured out

I might, just possibly, maybe, kind of…talk about blogs a lot. To my family. And while my husband tolerates my blog-talk (while secretly wishing I’d talk about something else, I’m sure, such as my grand plans to thoroughly clean the house - which don’t exist, by the way), C., my 7-year-old, absorbs all the blogginess I can dish out. He asks me what I’m going to blog about next, he regularly reads my posts, and he knows all about the blogs I visit.

Last week, I showed him this post by Jules at Everyday Mommy, because he’s been interested in Rube Goldberg machines lately, so I thought he’d appreciate seeing another kid’s adventures in constructing them. The next day he said, “Mom, whose son was it who made that Rube Goldberg machine?” “Everyday Mommy’s son,” I answered. “Oh…[pause]…for some reason I thought it was BooMama’s son. Or maybe Rocks in My Dryer’s son.” All the blogs are starting to meld together in his mind, I suppose. But the important thing is that the names of blogs roll off his tongue as easily as requests for candy.

I’ve created a monster nerd wonderful child who appreciates the treasures and benefits inherent in the reading and writing of blogs.

C. is also fascinated by the weekly memes that I participate in: Works for Me Wednesday, Thursday Thirteen, Everyday Things. He loves the fact that tons of people all over the blogosphere are doing the same kinds of posts on the same day. And he especially loves the fact that they all started with someone’s good idea and blossomed into…well, phenomena. To him, this is the American Dream.

So recently, he had an idea.

C: Mom, I think you should start your own blog thing to do on a certain day of the week. Like Works for Me Wednesday. And then lots of people will do your idea. Maybe you could do something on Saturdays.

Me: Well…I’m not sure I can come up with a brilliant idea. And even if I did, I’m not sure how many people would participate.

C: Yeah well, first you’ll have to make your blog more popular.

Me: And how should I go about doing that?

C: You need to write better posts.

Well.

And here I thought that he admired my blogging ability. I thought he harbored sentiments like, my mom is the best blog-writer ever. But apparently, he sees lots of room for improvement. Hmph.

All right, C., I’ll keep working at making my posts better. And someday, far in the future, when that brilliant weekly meme idea comes to me in a dream, maybe I’ll try to start it. Maybe. And you, darling boy, can be my agent and handle all the bloggy publicity while keeping me on track for improvement. And keeping me humble, of course. There’s nothing better than a child when it comes to keeping one humble. :)

I am absolutely hooting with laughter! “You need to write better posts.” Critic! LOL!

But, I think he’s on to something. I’d participate if you did a weekly feature.

LOL! Nothing like a child to keep it all in perspective eh? LOL He sounds like a very serious in the future blogger and he’ll probably take blogdom by storm one day!

Everyone’s a critic.

Yeah well. I think your posts rock. And I REALLY don’t say that to many people.

I think your fascination with blogging feeds into C.’s imagination somehow. I imagine him lying awake at night thinking about your blog! So cute he wants you to be popular! Quite a kid!

Okay. THAT is hysterical. And a little surreal. :-) But it is funny how blog world seeps over into real world – my husband has been trying to keep up with “who’s who” lately, and it cracks me up.

Your post made my day. Thanks for that.

Ha! That’s hysterical. I’ve had those “burst my bubble” moments with my kids too. God’s little jokes don’t go unnoticed…

Oh my goodness, this is the best thing I’ve read today. I love that word – blogginess. It’s right up there with Boo’s bloggity goodness.

Seven years old and he’s keeping track of everyone better than I am!

What a hoot. I’m laughing so hard I can’t see. You have a little treasure there. And yes, he’s a MAJOR blogger in the works.

That is too cute! So fun that your seven year old is so into it! My seven year old isn’t quite there with me yet…but I’m working on her! :)

Adorable! What a great connecting point for you and your son! Of course you gotta take the good with the bad, right? Maybe he can be the one to come up with the next meme phenomenon. He’s got a different perspective so it would be completely original!

Thanks for stopping by!

Tell C that we think that your posts are fantastic! And I am trying to figure out other ways to say, “I read on a blog,” or “one of the people whose blog I read. . . “

That boy of yours is just too much. I don’t know how I would deal with a wound like that… except maybe like you. It is amazing what comes out of their mouths. I am surprised that Anonymous didn’t have a comment for that one. I do look forward to the game reviews, however, since I have seen some of the boxes that you have had in your living room in the past. You are quite the gamer.

I’m so glad you all got as big a kick out of that as I did. :)

And thanks for the encouragement about my posts – even if they’re not up to C.’s standards of greatness, it’s nice to know some people enjoy them!

C. sounds like he’s got it all figured out! Nothing like being set straight by your child, huh? He sounds great. :0)

Barb sent me over here today and I got a good chuckle. My grandson, who is 8, comes in and says, “Are you on the internet AGAIN???” My husband is finally catching on that this is a good thing for me. Good stuff! Smart little boy!

From the mouths of babes. We all think they think we are the most amazing people in the world….until they say something like that! :-) Very cute.

Barb sent me over here to read this and I’m glad she did! This is so darned funny!

Contrary to your son’s opinion, I think you write excellent posts and I think you could easily be successful with your own meme idea! :)

I’m doing a Five Ingredient Friday weekly recipe exchange that is slowly building up some steam. It just takes time, I guess. :) I’d love it if you’d participate this coming Friday! :)

Let me know if/when you do start a meme so I can come check it out!

How funny! My three-year-old doesn’t have much awareness of the bloggy world yet, but she definitely knows about ebay. I can hear her playing in her room, “Oh, do you like my new dress? I bought it on EBAY! Then I found it in the mailbox!”
